We are pleased to announce the new album from Owen Pallett, In Conflict, on May 23rd 2014. In Conflict was written and produced by Pallett, recorded with the core rhythm section of Robbie Gordon and Matt Smith, and features contributions from Brian Eno and The Czech FILM harmonic Orchestra, amongst others.
Watch the illuminating album trailer here:
In Conflict is full of love songs – more specifically, songs about liminal states and our loved ones locked in battle with them. “The record is meant to approach ‘insanity’ in a positive way,” Owen says – emphasis on the ironizing scare quotes around singular notions of insanity. “Depression, addiction, gender trouble, and the creative state are presented as positive, loveable, empathetic ways of being. Not preferable, per se, but all as equal, valid positions that we experience, which make us human.”
Pallett was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, alongside Arcade Fire, for their work on Spike Jonze’s Her. While Pallett has served as a versatile collaborator to many projects in both pop and art establishments— the list is far too long to recite here, but you know where to look— he is equally beloved for his accessibility; for the way his art reflects & resonates with Mainstream Pop Culture; for the emotionally cathartic outlet his music provides.
In Conflict will be available on May 23rd on CD (WIGCD304), Digitally (WIG304D), standard edition LP (WIGLP304) and on limited edition double LP (with three bonus tracks) (WIGLP304X) through Dom Mart.
Katie Kim is the pseudonym of Katie Sullivan when she performs and records her Slowcore, ethereal, ambient folk/pop. De-tuned guitars and sparse piano playing, walls of loops and echoing vocals come to the fore along with grisly tones, haunting and experimental flavours for sounds, all of which is executed with subtle simplicity. Paired with a voice that reviewers and fans alike, have tried to liken to many of the high rollers making their mark today , but end up agreeing, that Katie Kim’s style is entirely of her own making.
Katie Kim has released two studio albums to date: Twelve in 2008 and Cover & Flood in 2012 (UK release 2013). She has also scored an original soundtrack for the 1928 surrealist Germain Dulac silent film, “La Coquille et Le Clergyman”, commissioned by The Cork French Film Festival, which she also performed with her full band, live, in front of a sold out audience. This original score will be released later this year as part of a multi media package.
She has also worked with artists such as Ed Harcourt, David Kitt, Halves and The Waterboys, who she appeared with on “Later…With Jools Holland” in 2011.
A third album is due later this year.
