Having recently released his stunning new single ‘Like I Did’, been announce in The Great Escape Festival’s FIRST 50 and as support for Kodaline on their European tour dates and Lewis Capaldi on his Irish dates in December, Irish singer-songwriter JC Stewart announces his own headline show upstairs in Whelan’s, Dublin on Saturday the 12th of January 2019.
‘Like I Did’ is a powerful gospel tinged ode to a close friend’s personal experience, it’s packed with soul and emotion. Listen HERE
Speaking about the song’s inspiration JC explains, “I wrote Like I Did about a situation one of my friends was in where he had just out some news that nobody wanted to hear. He was angry and frustrated, and we wrote this song about the situation. It’s a really special song to me because the lyrics aren’t trying to be fancy, it’s simply what he said to me put into song form. I’m incredibly excited to have it out into the world!”
‘Like I Did’ is the follow-up to JC Stewart’s recent single ‘Medicine’, described by CLASH as “Soulful pop with a rare degree of maturity…” it has already surpassed the 2 million stream mark on Spotify and picked up support from Radio X, RTE and Cool FM. He also recorded a beautiful live version of ‘Medicine’ for the Mahogany Sessions.
A soulful singer and incredibly talented songwriter, JC Stewart has already worked with some of the biggest names in music including Nile Rodgers and Rudimental, not to mention a recent feature on record, ‘Footprints’ with Frank Walker. He is in the studio regularly with the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Zak Abel, James TW, Benjamin Francis Leftwich & Cutfather to name a few. A seasoned songwriter in his own right, JC Stewart’s release of Parachute in 2016 has now reached more than 1 million streams on Spotify.
This year has already seen JC Stewart support Snow Patrol at their London headline gig at Islington Assembly Hall and play at various festivals in UK and Europe, including Live at Leeds, Barn on the Farm and Where’s The Music festival in Sweden.
Ahead of his London headline show JC Stewart heads to Europe supporting Kodaline in Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Milan, Stuttgart, Cologne and Zurich. He will play The Old Blue last as part of The Great Escape Festival’s FIRST 50 on November 28th and he’ll support Lewis Capaldi on his Irish tour dates in December.
Born in the small town of Magherafelt, Co. Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, J C Stewart started writing songs at the age of 15. Inspired by the old Beatles, Nina Simone and U2 albums lying around his family house growing up, he got more and more into the craft of music and became a part of the Northern Irish music circuit in various bands as well as learning all the songs of the hottest local bands and trying to figure out what made a great song great.
Having spent some time refining his sound and developing his craft, JC Stewart is back with new music and if the initial reviews are anything to go by, this guy is one to watch.
