+ guest THE MAN WHOM
At the beginning of 2011 Jamie Lawson was a relatively unknown but hard-working and very talented singer-songwriter desperately looking for a break – any break – and then suddenly, in the course of a few short days, his whole life changed via an infectious but simple love song called ‘I Wasn’t Expecting That’. Within a week the song had 200,000+ hits on Youtube, he was being courted by major labels, making an appearance on the Late Late Show and preparing for a sell-out show at Whelan’s. Lawson subsequently signed to Universal Ireland where his 3rd album ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ peaked at number 11 in the Irish charts.
To call his meteoric rise to fame a fairy tale is an understatement but Lawson is no flash in the pan – he is a genuine talent with a wonderful voice and an ear for a great hook and his live shows are infused with a disarming confidence that warms the hearts of his audiences. Jamie’s previous album, 2010’s The Pull Of The Moon” on Lookout Mountain Records was made Album Of The Year by The Sunday Mercury beating the likes of Ray Davies, Take That and Brandon Flowers to the top spot.
Jamie plays Whelan’s on Friday 21st October
