TOM COONEY

TOM COONEY

+ Guests “Tom Cooney is the J.D Salinger of Australian folk.” – Cam Mckeller “You almost feel that you’ve snuck into Cooney’s room and are reading his diary… at times just a lone guitar and voice so close you feel you can reach out and touch them.” – Time Off Tom can’t figure out what to write about himself.  He feels like a dog trying to open a door.  No thumbs…  The  story goes: Tom recorded and released a mini-album about four years ago with  generous help from many friends.  People seemed to like it, he was surprised.  He went on perform shows with two of his favourite artists (Fionn Regan and M. Ward) and played the Australian festival circuit. Then his debut record, Presque Vu, was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.  He didn’t win, but neither did co-nominees Cut Copy and the Drones, so who cares?  Upon hearing the news whilst living in Dublin, he flew back to Australia to tour and recorded a new album. The album, The Repetition is Tom’s most confident release to date.  It is a study of cycles, distance, love and indifference. Tom then moved to Paris where he turned a corner and stepped into a project with Josh T Pearson called West Country Night.  Tom, Josh, two French singers and another Texan were put in a room with recording equipment for two days and told to play.  The result is a raw, spontaneous and beautiful record. Most recently after a string of shows in Ireland, including opening for golden voiced Lisa Hannigan, Tom released The Repetition in Australia and performed a whistlestop tour.  Now, Tom has released The Repetition in Europe and will be playing more shows than you’ve had hot dinners.
