plus support NUADÁN _ Main Venue _ Having just released their third studio album, The Broken Pledge to critical acclaim, The Bonny Men will make their return to Whelan’s to deliver a pulsating and high-octane gig for St Patrick’s festival 2020! Legendary musician Steve Cooney has described The Bonny Men’s new album as “daring and unstoppable” and this will certainly be the case for their live performance on Monday the 16th of March. This seven-piece have musical credentials admired by many, with a long list of awards including young musician of the year for their Uilleann Piper, Maitiú Ó Casaide, and multiple World Bodhrán Champion, Conor Lyons. The distinguished sound of the band brings a contemporary flair to the heart and core of traditional Irish music and has seen their following swell in their nine years playing together. With newly crafted arrangements, intriguing sounds and a delivery that is never shy of character or personality, this Pre-Patrick’s Day gig will be guaranteed to be a musical experience from start to finish! Support on the night comes from a young and newly formed Traditional Irish Band ‘Nuadán’, who are a vibrant band from the Déise who play a wide range of traditional tunes and sean-nós songs, with a flare for lively performances encapsulated on their first studio release: Dén Díobháil. “The Bonny Men have delivered another vibrant collection of well-tempered tunes and songs with extended and dynamic arrangements that unfold with surprising twists and turns…daring and unstoppable!” – Steve Cooney. “While others look to subvert convention, this seven-piece’s mastery is in their playing” – Sunday Times. “A reputation for electric live performances with an energy reminiscent of the legendary Bothy Band” – Hot Press. “They are on the right track and Irish music is in safe hands” – Mick O’Connor
