AMANO

_ Main Venue _

Ireland’s new indie-rock sensation The Academic have just announced details of their biggest headline show to date with the band set to perform at Whelan’s this October. Lead singer Craig Fitzgerald says “We have spent the last 6/7 years, since our early teens, playing where anybody was prepared to listen to us. There has been no defined path or formula for us. We write, we rehearse, we plug in and we play. It’s that simple. We are not a band that was shaped overnight. We have grown up as people and as musicians over the last couple of years but we have gone through a lot of shit to get to the point where we are happy with the music we are making right now. ” “Different” the first release from the band, has been one of the hit records of the year in Ireland and has travelled internationally too with Radio 1 in the UK also showing their support for the band. Guitarist, Matt Murtagh adds, “it was just one of those songs that took on a life of its own. We didn’t expect it to take off like it did but in saying that we have ambition. “Different” has been the catalyst that got things moving for us but we have 3 albums worth of material so hopefully people out there will like what’s coming.’’ Fresh off a whirlwind few months of festivals and touring, including supports for Kodaline, Noel Gallagher & Catfish and The Bottlemen, the band will gearing up to release their debut EP ahead of their biggest headline show to date in Whelan’s.
