Three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills. It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Ireland’s unsung and unsigned.

____________

DEATH IN THE SICKROOM

Death In The Sickroom are a four-piece band from Dublin who play a superb brand of 12 string jangle pop.

Formed in mid 2012 the most recent addition to the Reekus Records roster have been making quite a name for themselves on the capital’s live music circuit. “They have a sound unlike any other band around at the moment. Really worth seeing live if you get the opportunity.” (Barry Gruff)

Eighteen-year-old Mark Heffernan’s lyrical content is reminiscent of the beautifully inspiring kitchen-sink romanticism of Suede and Pulp, combining themes of sex, violence and isolation with infectiously catchy, well written tunes.

The demo version of their forthcoming single ‘Tonight’ has been likened to the sparkling indie brilliance of Echo & The Bunnymen at their very best.” (Barry Gruff) “Death In The Sickroom…. offer up some excellently crafted jangle pop.” (Trevor Meyer: Blahblahblah Science)

JOHN PETHERBRIDGE

Singer-Songwriter John Petherbridge hails from Co. Meath and is currently making an impression on the Dublin music scene. He is not only a singer -songwriter but partakes in many different collaborations including producing, recording, engineering, co-writing and most recently performing with up and coming band “Cult Called Man”.

The forefront of John’s passion lies with the music he creates and writing songs that burst with honesty, emotion and real life experience. A keen guitarist from ten years old he only crossed over into the world of songwriting at the age of 19. It is easily said that John’s voice has evolved along with each performance and is now an easily recognizable tone that draws an audience in and leaves them with no choice but to enjoy and listen.

What can you expect from John Petherbridge’s music?? Songs that are written with such honesty are certain to have elements of darkness which John conveys however he also feels it is important to have an undercurrent of hope to all of his songs. Predominantly an acoustic artist he is turning electric by introducing for the first time the addition of a band consisting of talented musician friends. John’s new EP which he recorded and produced is out now and available for download on his Bandcamp page. A stand out song on the EP is “Lost at Sea” which has become a regular in John’s live shows. Another one to have a listen to is “Warning Fire” in which Joe Hogarty (of The Rumor/Cult Called Man) wrote and played the keys on giving the song an ominous tone contrasting with the beautiful string arrangement in the chorus.

MONGOOSE

Mongoose is a Dublin-based band, consisting of Molly O’ Mahony on vocals and guitar, Ailbhe Dunne on double bass, guitar and vocals, Muireann Ní Cheannabháin on vocals and cello and Cara Dunne on percussion. Our music is an original mix of jazz, folk and acoustic harmony. We play most of our own songs and some creative covers.

We’ve been playing the songwriters’ showcase scene in Dublin for the past year as well as gigs in pubs around the country. The biggest gig to date was supporting Camille

O’ Sullivan for the Ballydehob Jazz Fest last May, to a crowd of 400+ people.

We launched our debut EP “Songs from an Umbrella-Booth” in Doyles’ in November. The EP was recorded and produced by Denis Kilty and the title hints at our unusual method of recording; one microphone in a booth made of mattresses, topped with an umbrella.

We are currently working on promoting our EP. It is available for download on our website www.mongooseband.com and can be sampled onhttp://soundcloud.com/mongoose-mma. We can also be found on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/mongoosetunes.
