CATHAL FLAHERTY

+ guests Since starting writing music 3 years ago, Cathal Flaherty(18) has spent the last year locked away in Sonas studios with his band under the watchful eye of engineer Tony O’ Flaherty. Sharing the studio among other Irish artists such as Mick Flannery and John Spillane, Cathal and his band Kieran Healy, Ivan Cooper, Ronan Kealy and Adam Cooper felt right at home and quickly began recording Cathals debut EP ‘Lost & Found’. ‘the idea behind this Ep only took shape when we started recording it. I had most of the songs written by this stage but didn’t know where I was going with it. I think the general idea behind the EP is about how life is always evolving, and how what we have or who we are now could change so fast, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst. I sometimes find when I listen to a cd that I can’t relate to it or understand it completely but I feel with this record everyone can relate to it in there own little way, that’s what I love about it.’ In the last year, Cathal has had the privilege of supporting one of his favourite singers Jack L answell as other great Irish artists such as The Walls, Francis Black and Brian Kennedy. Most recently he has supported one of the most successful country singers in the world, Bonnie Tyler when she came to the INEC on August 5th. He’s played in various shows in some of Irelands finest venues such as the INEC KIllarney and the Cork Opera House. He was also featured as album of the week on Radio Kerry to great reviews. He was shortlisted this year for the Arthur’s Day ‘Play on the Day’ competition in association with Hot Press and RT 2FM. During Christmas 2010 he was invited by Jack L to play ‘The Ruby Sessions’, Dublins top acoustic club who has played host so some great bands such as Paolo Nutini, The Script and Mumford & Sons to name but a few. He has also appeared on balcony TV twice, all this since September 2010. Cathal launched his Debut EP ‘Lost & Found’ headlining his show in the INEC Acoustic Club on July 9th 2011 with his full band and special guests. He is planning on going back to the studio in late 2011 to record his debut Album which is due to be released in late summer 2012 and releasing his first single at the end of 2011.
