plus support BADHANDS _ Main Venue _ Facebook event…deep and thoughtful music which befits the man who is responsible for some of the country’s most iconic songs.”  Rhythms Magazine “…he is a naturally engaging performer with an endearing stage manner that is never short of humour, but more than anything, it is his voice that commands attention.” The Australian As an artist in continuous motion, Bernard Fanning has accumulated one of the most celebrated and distinct songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. With his solo career now spanning 10-plus years, Fanning has firmly cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest songwriters and lyricists. With the recent release of Brutal Dawn, companion album to 2016’s Civil Dusk, Bernard Fanning and The Black Fins are again pulling out the road cases – this time returning to the UK & Ireland. Bernard is excited to announce he will appear at Whelans in Ireland, Dublin in early December for a brief visit to showcase songs from Civil Dusk/Brutal Dawn alongside some old favourites spanning his twenty-five year career. Looking at the gap between memory and reality, Isn’t It A Pity neatly shifts between mellow verses and a glorious chorus driven by a gritty soul groove. The idea of renewal and forward motion is captured in the final verse: “Now all your fabled advice rings of emptiness and studied lines…But I have resolved to erase all the bitterness and venom in my veins’.   “I was listening to Bobby Blue Bland’s ‘Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City’, Bernard explains, “and I loved the way the Philly strings gave it a lot more melody and power without making it beefy. When we recorded it we were deliberately trying to keep it from rocking too much so we replaced what were horns, with strings and it did the trick. Clare Bowditch helped on the weird minory backing vocals which helps it all sound big, without being heavy. It was a bit of an arm wrestle this song, but I love where it ended up.”
