BENE & CORMAC

plus support ^ Upstairs ^Facebook event Benedict Morris and Cormac Crummey are two of the most anticipated young musicians on the traditional music scene. They make up a very talented fiddle and guitar duo and are releasing their debut duo album in the autumn of 2018. Cormac Crummey (21) resides from Belfast, while Benedict Morris (20) lives and studies in Glasgow. Cormac has toured both Britain and Europe with several artists such as Lisa Canny, Cúig (as part of the Irish Folk Festival Tour of 2017) and several other Irish dance shows. He has recently graduated from Queen’s University with a BSc in Sonic Arts and Music Technology. He has also begun recording an album with a new trio featuring Trad legends Alan Doherty and Tola Custy. Benedict has played at some of the biggest festivals in the trad calendar already, such as Tønder Festival with Ímar as well as HebCelt with ‘The Hur’, a folk pop band he currently plays. He is also the fiddle player with 5X World Champion Irish dancer David Geaney in his new dance show ‘Velocity: Rising’ – a show that is debuting on New York’s Broadway in November 2018. Benedict is also a semi-finalist in Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2019. They have recently recorded their debut album ‘Wavelength’ in RedBox Recording Studios, Belfast with engineer and renowned musician Dónal O’Connor. Their opening tour as ‘Bene & Cormac’ starts at the beginning of November 2018 with shows in Dublin, Limerick as well as home gigs in Glasgow and Belfast. They will be joined by a full band featuring the crème of Ireland’s vibrant music scene; Cathal Murphy (Cúig) on kit, Jos Kelly (Moxie) on keys and Richie Delahunty (Echo) on tenor banjo/electric guitar. This will not be their first outing however, as a pair they begun to build a strong following after having supported some of the biggest bands in the scene such as Lúnasa in the Duncairn Arts Centre and Ímar at the Willie Clancy Festival. This summer the Bene & Cormac band featured on the Saturday night of TG4’s ‘Fleadh TV’ in Drogheda. Over the last few years, they have compiled a vast collection of music, mostly new compositions penned by themselves and some of Scotland and Ireland’s most notable musicians. This, combined with progressive yet tasteful accompaniment really does make for a refreshing and energetic performance.
