NEW SINGLE : VALENTINE (Released 14th Feb)

‘Captivating’ (Irish Times) ‘Achingly beautiful’ (Hotpress) ‘Polished & gutsy’ (Sunday Times)

Dublin five piece I DRAW SLOW release their much anticipated new album WHITE WAVE CHAPEL in February 2014. ‘Valentine’, the first single to be taken from the album will be released on 14th February 2014.

I DRAW SLOW will launch WHITE WAVE CHAPEL with Irish tour dates followed by an American tour in April.

WHITE WAVE CHAPEL was recorded in Dublin late last year with legendary producer Brian Masterson, whose production credits include recordings with Planxty, The Chieftans, Christy Moore, Alison Krauss, Katie Melua and Natalie Merchant.

The recording and mixing process was a productive and collaborative one, resulting in thirteen tracks of beautifully crafted melodies; performed and interpreted by musicians who really are at the top of their game.

‘It was such a pleasure working with I DRAW SLOW. This is how music should be recorded…everyone playing together with great feeling and joy.’ – Brian Masterson, Producer

WHITE WAVE CHAPEL is a creative progression for I DRAW SLOW. The sound is rooted in the style of the Appalachian Mountains and draws on the traditions of Irish music while incorporating all that’s great about modern Americana. I DRAW SLOW have created a whole new songbook of stories and melodies with this album. It features tales of dark and light, of debauchery and love, of trouble and joy that are sure to become firm favourites with their growing fan base at home and abroad.

I DRAW SLOW have been playing and recording together since 2008 when siblings Louise and Dave Holden were joined by Adrian Hart (violin), Colin Derham (clawhammer banjo) and Konrad Liddy (Double Bass). WHITE WAVE CHAPEL is their third release which follows debut album, Downside and the critically acclaimed sophomore release, Redhills.

The release of Redhills was a turning point in the band’s career. The album was named Album of The Week on RTE Radio 1 and topped the iTunes Ireland folk chart within days of its release. The album included the excellent singles, ‘Goldmine’ and ‘Swans’ which were accompanied by videos directed by Rory Bresnihan and Hugh O’Conor. You can watch the cinematic video for Goldmine at the following link.

The video for ‘Swans’ was filmed live in the south Dublin countryside. The band worked with their frequent collaborator, filmmaker and actor, Hugh O’ Conor, to record the video in one continuous take using only five microphones. The result is I DRAW SLOW at their very best, impressive and intimate at the same time. You can watch the live video for Swans at the following link.

Redhills garnered the band rave reviews in international media who recognised the band’s unique style. The Fold Radio UK review compared them to Gillian Welsh and Alison Krauss and noted;

(I DRAW SLOW give)… ‘American top league equivalents a run for their money, with finely crafted songs offering a unique angle of storytelling unlike any other roots band out there”.

Redhills impacted at US radio and was frequently listed in the top ten folk radio playlists there. The album also helped secure I DRAW SLOW an American record deal with legendary label Pinecastle. This career milestone lead to the band securing international tours and festival performances in the US, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the UK, including the prestigious Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. I DRAW SLOW were invited to support the legendary Béla Fleck and The Flecktones at the National Concert Hall last year. They were also invited to play at key American folk festivals including Grey Fox in New York where they played to an audience of over 10,000 people last summer. I DRAW SLOW also showcased at the world famous IBMA Event in Nashville Tennessee in 2013.

The release of WHITE WAVE CHAPEL will ensure a busy year for the band who will take their show on the road for much of 2014.
