It’s been just over 20 years since The Sofa’s played their last gig in Dublin’s Sugar Club. But the Dublin band is getting back together for one night only on July 18th at Whelan’s. (upstairs)

Yes, this electrifying and funky outfit is ready to groove their way into your soul and get you bopping till you drop.

Made up of Ireland’s finest session musicians and producers, these guys have seen it all. Artists they have individually collaborated with include Ronnie Wood, David Gray, Toots and the Maytals, Sinead O’Connor and T Bone Burnett, to name just a few.

Members, Wayne Sheehy (Drums), Robbie Malone (Bass), Conor Brady (Gtr) & Cian Boylan (Keys) have toured the world and acquired the musical skill set that would turn the head of any mere mortal.

Special guest on the night is the amazing Declan Whitston on Sax.

Meet the band

Wayne P Sheeny is one of Ireland’s most experienced professional musicians and producers. A multi-instrumentalist but more popularly known as an international drummer and percussionist having toured with some of the world’s most well-known artists. These include: Ron Wood, Bo Diddley, Robert Palmer, Peter Gabriel, Paul Young, Damien Dempsey and many more.

Rob Malone has been nominated 3 years in a row for musician of the year in the Hotpress readers’ poll. The Dublin musician has been a part of David Gray’s band for the last 25 years and has contributed on both Songwriting and production credits with Gray on numerous records that have sold in there millions. Malone has also recorded records with The Corrs, The Hothouse Flowers, T Bone Burnett to name just a few.

Conor Brady is one of Ireland’s finest guitar players. He began playing with Paul Cleary and The Blades in the mid ’80s and he was a member of the Partisans, as well as recording with Terence Trent D’Arby. He played on the soundtrack to ‘The Commitments’ before touring with Andrew Strong. He also toured with the Corrs, standing in for Anto Drennan and appeared on their ‘Live at the Royal Albert Hall’.

Cian Boylan is an Irish producer, pianist, composer, arranger, musical director, and songwriter working internationally in the music industry for over 25 years.

Regarded as one of the most versatile musicians in Ireland, Cian works across many genres and is equally at home writing, producing and performing with pop, rock, jazz and r’n’b artists as he is arranging and composing for big band, orchestra and film/TV projects.
