Brendan Hickey is a man who’s most likely to be known as the driving force behind “On The Verge”, which over a thirty year period has promoted original music through the “On The Verge Live” radio show, the very popular website www.ontheverge.ie and showcase live perforances including many at Dublin’s iconic Whelans.
A true pioneer, it was Brendan who first came across the raw talents of now-established artists like Mic Christopher, Mark Dignam, Seán Millar, Paddy Casey, Mundy, Damien Dempsey, Gemma Hayes and Declan O’Rourke (to name but a few) and was the first to interview them on air.
The original ‘On The Verge’ Radio Show was broadcast on Pearse College Community Radio (Provisional License) in February 1996. Brendan then formed On The Verge Productions later that year. It later moved to Dublin South FM.
The latest ‘vergion’ of the radio show “VERGEMERGE” still continues to give musicians with original material the chance to have their work broadcast in eclectic playlists @ www.ontheverge.ie and to perform live at oTv sessions.
Brendan is also artist in his own right. A performance poet and spoken-word explorer, since the early 2000’s he has released three well received albums. He has also performed live countrywide with the solid support of his excellent band “The Launch Crew”.
The celebratory 30th Anni-Verge-Ary event, promoted by Julie Moyle, takes place at Little Whelan’s on Wednesday 11th March and will feature music by many of the acts who have played for oTv over the years.
