To celebrate the release of his debut album “A Grand Romantic Gesture”, Dublin indie-pop artist Mr Billy Fitzgerald comes to Whelans on Tuesday 1st April.
Formerly the lead singer with Dublin pop-rockers The Dead Flags, Billy has been plying his solo trade around Ireland for the past few years, patiently building an audience with his earworm songs and hilarious online videos. And now with the release of his debut album, Billy is poised for greater attention.

Fans of Bell X1 and Republic of Loose will find lots to love in Billy’s high-energy funk and new-wave inspired anthems.
His songs relate touching tales of failed romance through upbeat melodies and ultra-catchy choruses, delivered with soaring falsetto vocals and a wry sense of lyrical humour. Billy describes his music as “songs about heartbreak that make you want to dance”.
Honing his live abilities over two decades of opening for the likes of The Frames, Therapy? and The Coronas, Billy brings infectious energy to his performances, mixing scratchy funk guitar, drum machines and synths with super-sweet vocal harmonies and live drums.
