NEALO
He’s a rapper cut from a different cloth. Taking his cues from everything from jazz rap to r’n’b, his lyrics blend deeply-rooted personal philosophies with classic Dublinisms, in a manner both emotive and compelling. All of this floats on a bed of jazz-infused, smooth instrumentals
ELAINE MAI
Producer Elaine Mai from Mayo is based in Dublin and ten years ago she. was playing with Galway band Go Panda Go. At the end of ’21 she released her debut solo album with the help of a host of well-known collaborators. The album is called Home
WYVERN LINGO
This past year, Wyvern Lingo – a 3-piece from Bray in Co. Wicklow – released Awake You Lie, the follow-up from their debut album from three years ago. The 3-piece came together in Bray in Co. Wicklow in a teenage world of self-discovery soundtracked by the 60s/70s classic rock and singer-songwriter music collections of their parents and the 90s/00s r’n’b of their childhood
CAT DOWLING
From Kilkenny, she fronted outfits like Alphastates and Babelfish and 8 years ago released her debut solo album The Believer. She writes beautifully dark, perfectly crafted pop songs which offer lowkey beats coloured with layers of sonic delights. Her second album Animals was released in late ‘21
ADRIAN CROWLEY
He was born in Malta, grew up in Galway, lives in Dublin and a few months back released his ninth album The Watchful Eye of the Stars
MALAKI
He’s one of Ireland’s most prolific and fast-rising rappers. Railing against the ‘hard man’ archetype many Irish boys are raised to uphold, he tackles themes of transformation and toxic masculinity with ingenuity and hard-hitting quips, wearing his heart proudly on his sleeve
