PADRAIG COONEY AND BEDTIME NOW
Whelan’s Upstairs • Thur 24th October 2024
Badhands play a headline show in Whelans Upstairs on October 24th with special guest Padraig Cooney and Bedtime Now. This will be Badhand’s only show of 2024 as the band has taken time out to work on a new project. The band released its critically acclaimed 3rd album ‘The Wheel’ in May ’23, which received 4 stars in The Irish Times and earned comparisons to Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Radiohead.
Badhands is the musical project of award winning Dublin songwriter and composer Dan Fitzpatrick. In late 2018 he released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Predictable Boy’. The record was described in The Sunday Times as ‘Evoking Nick Cave with it’s guttural swagger, it has taken the Dubliner’s songwriting to another level’, and was made album of the week by Dan Hegarty on RTE 2FM. The single ‘Waves’ received considerable airplay on national radio in Ireland, and was made Song Of The Week by Laura Whitmore on BBC5 Live.
In 2020 Fitzpatrick released the 5 track concept EP Oceans, funded by The Arts Council. Upon release the EP was featured on Seascapes on RTE Radio 1 and was described by Zara Hedderman in The Thin Air as ‘An endlessly evocative and engaging body of work.’
Badhands’ 2nd album ‘Far Away’ was released on April 1st 2022 and was described in The Irish TImes as ‘A wonderfully rich sound inspired by mid-period Scott Walker and blue-chip legends and luminaries such as Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Lee Hazlewood.’
Fitzpatrick has also composed soundtracks for award winning documentaries including: Wild Cuba, which aired in 2020 on BBC2 and was nominated for 3 Emmys. The music won an award at the prestigious Jackson Wild Film Festival in the U.S., as well as winning Best Score at the 2021 Green Screen Festival in Germany.
