Acclaimed Indie songstress, Ann Scott, returns to Whelan’s to air songs from her latest album, Lily.
‘an inventive, literate and poetic voice’ —Tony Clayton Lea
“Not one of the highly hyped songwriters but definitely one of the most talented” —Dan Hegarty – 2FM
Presiding over a range of left-field guitars, boutique synths and rattling percussion, Scott sings in a cracked alto with ‘dreamlike, enigmatic lyrics and deadpan delivery’ Evening Herald. Twice nominated for Irish meteor awards, Ann Scott has carved out her own niche as an independent and firebrand songwriter over the course of five original and critically acclaimed albums. Her latest opus, Lily was recorded over an extended period of isolation, and released in lockdown 2021. Lily deals with themes ranging from motherhood and family, to dementia, loneliness, burnout and hope. Partly recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago, and tied together between snatched studio moments in France and Ireland, the album comprises 12 songs and was mixed by long term collaborator Karl Odlum, who joins her for this performance.
“Lily retains Scott’s quirky, offbeat style of singing and performing that traces a stylistic timeline from Kristin Hersh and Beth Orton to Courtney Barnett and Aldous Harding.” Kevin Courtney – The Irish Times
‘Consistently interesting, haunting, inventive and beautiful…. like My Bloody Valentine playing a swimmy acoustic set or a blissful Cat Power-esque jazzy swing with poignant and satisfying lyrics.’ – Room 13
“A concoction of dreamy vocals and a dark PJ Harvey-esque romanticism.” Lauren Murphy – The Irish Times
