Facebook event Dermot Barrett returns from Norway. The former lead singer of the critically acclaimed Indie rock band Ten Speed Racer, finally returns to Whelan’s to promote his solo album ‘Dawns Eras Tides’. Released in Ireland in June 2016, ‘Dawn Eras Tides’ has already made its mark, with Tom Dunne naming it in his top albums of 2016. Rob O Connor of Beat102/103 also named it in his top 25 of 2016, as did Ann Marie Walsh of 8Radio. It was featured album of the week with Dan Hegarty of 2fm, with Roddie Cleere on his KCLR Irish Music Show, and also on Ann Marie Walsh’s The Departure Lounge. Dermot will be joined on stage by the incredible talent that is Joe Chester (Ten Speed Racer, Hedge Schools, A Lazarus Soul, occasional Waterboy and incredible artist in his own right) on guitar, and two of Dublin’s finest- Bryan McMahon(drums) and Anton Hegarty(Bass), both formally of the stunning band- Future Kings of Spain. Unusually enough, the album, ‘Dawns Eras Tides’ actually features all of the former members of Ten Speed Racer…with input coming from Dublin, Norway and Perth Australia, ….It was produced by Joe, and mixed in Nice, France. “…A perfect example of hook-laden power pop at its finest.” HOT PRESS “…and good news, too, judging from this sweet debut from singer Dermot Barrett. There are smartly crafted tunes, including the super-catchy ‘Decisions Decisions’…clever orchestration and a fine production.” Irish Independent “The singer and guitarist writes songs with strong heartbeats that flicker and surge in all the right places…Barrett’s tremor of a voice is satisfyingly rich all the way through…there are no illusions of grandeur here – just a solid, honest foundation for whatever comes next.” THE IRISH TIMES “Dermot Barrett’s first Album released under his given name is a perfect example of hook-laden power pop at its finest. It’s clear that the Norway-based songwriter has crafted an album custom-built for the famous Irish summer: upbeat pop songs with big sunny choruses infused with a sense that the clouds are gathering just beyond the horizon.” HOT PRESS “‘Sellotape the Seams’ is a perfected Pop song that Coldplay could make a Worldwide Hit!” Bergensavisen, Norway “Stand out tracks such as lead single ‘Decisions Decisions’, the driving, fuzzed-up indie stomp of ‘Stealing Stars’, and the top-down driving rock of ‘Muddy Water’ are all examples of a swaggering Americana that Wilco would be proud to call their own.” HOT PRESS
