Whelanslive is proud to present a celebration of new Irish music. Every Tuesday will see the upstairs venue play host to a series of the best of new music this country has to offer.Three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills.It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Irelands unsung and unsigned.

The OurZ

The OurZ are a four piece unsigned Rock band from Balbriggan in North County Dublin. The OurZ have been churning out a steady stream of original material that can be described as hard hitting, melodic, dirty rock. The Current line up have already enjoyed successful gigs in The Village, Whelans, Sweeneys and The Mezz in Temple Bar.

In Gerard Smith The OurZ have a charismatic and confident frontman who is also the main lyricist in the the band. Shane Kinsella is a gifted guitarist whose imaginative riffs are usually the starting point in the song writing process for the band. Bassist Gary Healy has played in various different cover & original bands since 1988. He joined The OurZ in 2010. Drummer Timmy “Drink” Berger is the newest member of the band. A savage Rock drummer with a pure Rock & Metal background.

DEM FOOLS

The beauty of having a 6 piece band is the range of tastes and influences that encompasses each night’s rehearsals. Take a piece of Rock, merge it with some reggae, smooth it out with some Blues, and then you might just come close to what Skerries band, DEM FOOLS are all about. To cut your teeth as a new original band in Dublin these days, means taking on and challenging knowledgeable muso’s in some of the capitals most respected venues. DEM FOOLS have now notched up a favourable and supportive following in some of these venues in 2011, and are continuing to build upon this greenshoot support into 2012. Having already risen to the challenge of playing Whelans, The Grand Social, King Kong Club, Dimestore and many more, the hard work of establishing a groundswell is well under way.

With Irelands burgeoning Festival scene a melting pot of new talent, it gets harder and harder to establish a following, and stand out from the plethora of mundanity which is unfortunately becoming the norm at some of the countries larger festivals. One thing that DEM FOOLS don’t do however, is mundane. With soaring vocals, an eclectic mix of guitars, tin whistle, keyboard, ukelele, drums, melodica and lots more, the scope of DEM FOOLS musical abilities – as well as an ability to knock out catchy and contagious tunes – is positively limitless.

Originally from Tipperary town. A Singer/songwriter with a difference, utilizing a loop station to create multi layered guitars, vocals and live percussion…. the guitar is the only instrument that accompanies this powerful, husky voice. speaking every level, given the depth of emotion and life experience poured into it. Heavily influenced by his roots in post hardcore and rock… this acoustic blend of melodic and intricate guitar in the forefront and dark, swelling rythm is captivating and original.
