“Songwriter Brian Casey provides an E.P. steeped in mood and atmosphere with his new record Rain Songs. Opening with the melodic, country inflected feel of ‘Believe’, Brian Casey mature and crafted songwriting takes centre stage within the stylish production of Rain Songs.” – The Last Mixed Tape, 2014, 8/10
“Casey’s musicianship is on full show on ‘Rain Songs’. Not only are his vocals most soulful on Times Riverbut they are solely backed by some impressive, intricate finger-picking. Showing a keen sense of song dynamics, Casey allows his songs to build naturally to a climax; favouring a tension-and-release approach rather than a standard soft-loud style. The false crescendo on closing track So Tomorrow is a particularly nice touch.” – Golden Plec Magazine.
In September 2014, Brian Casey completed his second self-produced EP, Rain Songs, a 5 track collection of slow burning delicate ideas which he simply had to get out of his system.
In the following months national and local radio play, a slot at HWCH, a successful national headline tour, a handful of shows in London, a slot in Whelans own ‘Ones to Watch’ and a performance at MTV Crashes in his home town of Cork meant that the musicians own cautious expectation surrounding the EP’s release were well and truly surpassed.
Thriving on an eclectic palette of influences ranging from the intensity and aggression of rock/blues heroes of old to the nuance and open melodies of his favourite modern day singer-songwriters, Casey’s songs move from simple acoustic arrangements to larger than life soundscapes with ease.
His recorded output thus far is an exhibition of songwriting, multi-instrumentalism And production skills in equal measure. Armed only with his acoustic guitar and keyboard and backed by a formidable drummer, Casey played hundreds of shows in the past 2 years shaping and expanding on these dynamic songs live as an unorthadox two piece band, resulting in a free flowing, reactive and often spontaneous live show that demands attention.
Never staying still, 2015 has seen work progress on an album in between touring and other production projects, expanding on the sounds and themes of Rain Songs and Casey’s 2013 debut EP, Plain Sailing.
