The title track of The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs—the triumphant fifth album by Wye Oak—is a coil of anxiety and exuberance, its verses and chorus sweeping into cascades of magnetic harmony. By the time the song ends, it has bloomed into an undeniable pop anthem, a spell to be shouted against the ills of our world. Press play for proof!
Listen to & share Wye Oak’s “The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs” now
The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs will be out worldwide on April 6; pre-order today on CD and “sand & sky” (opaque beige & translucent blue) Peak Vinyl in the Merge store with an optional exclusive t-shirt bundle. You can also pre-order the album via these participating independent record shops or from these digital providers.
For Louder, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack flew to one another’s cities—she in Durham, North Carolina, he in Marfa, Texas—for a week or so at a time, hunkering in home studios to sort through and combine their separate song sketches. These shorter stints together produced less second-guessing and hesitation in their process, yielding an unabashed and unapologetic Wye Oak. They discarded past rules about how to write a record, instead funneling all those experiences and experiments into perfectly unified statements.
The result is the biggest, broadest, boldest music Wye Oak has ever made. Louder pursues a litany of modern malaises, each of its dozen tracks diligently addressing a new conflict and pinning it against walls of sound, with the song’s subject and shape inextricably and ingeniously linked. It arrives at a time of immense doubt, when our personal problems are infinitely compounded by a world that seems in existential peril. But these songs answer the challenge by radiating self-reflection and resolve, wielding hooks and musical intricacy as a shield against the madness of the moment.
With today’s The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs album announcement comes a whole slew of new Wye Oak tour dates, on top of their special orchestral collaboration at NYC’s Symphony Space next month and their appearance at Iowa City’s Mission Creek Festival on release day. Get your tickets when they go on sale Friday, and don’t forget to follow Wye Oak on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for what is sure to be a monumental year for the band.

_ Main Venue _ Ciaran Lavery: Sweet Decay – The new album out 13th April “A beautifully wholesome homage to love in its purest and fullest form, with Lavery’s voice hitting its familiar endearingly androgynous sound throughout” – Billboard Listen to the lead track ‘To Chicago’: Critically-acclaimed and celebrated songwriter Ciaran Lavery will release his brand new album Sweet Decay on the 13th April, his first set of new music since his sophomore album – and winner of the Northern Ireland Music Prize – Let Bad In came out in 2016. You can pre-order the album here: https://ffm.to/sweetdecay To coincide with the release of the new album, Ciaran has made lead track ‘To Chicago’ available now, premiered via Billboard. You can listen to ‘To Chicago’ here: https://ciaranlavery.lnk.to/ToChicago Hailing from the village of Aghagallon, 20 miles south of Belfast, Sweet Decay is the Northern Irishman’s third longplayer, and is a record deep in emotional honesty, exploring the human condition in all its guises, and follows the aforementioned Let Bad In and debut album Not Nearly Dark that featured ‘Shame,’ a track that now has nearly 40 million Spotify streams. Recorded with an array of Irish musicians who have performed with the likes of Hozier and James Vincent McMorrow, Sweet Decay finds Ciaran expanding his musical horizons. Opening track ‘Everything Is Made To Last’ offers a more full band sound, complete with a subtle electronic backing, whilst ‘13’ finds the songwriter expanding on his folk background in to something approaching a more Americana sound. That isn’t to say Ciaran has completely changed musical tack, as ‘Morning Bell’ testifies, featuring his lovelorn vocals and gentle, finger plucked acoustic guitar whilst the haunting, almost gospel-tinged ‘Beast At My Door’ finds Ciaran detailing his mental health battles over sweeping strings and delicate acoustic guitar. **SECOND DATE ADDED DUE TO DEMAND** ALL PROCEEDS GOING TO THE PETER MCVERRY TRUST DONATIONS WELCOME ON THE NIGHT A year after their sold out debut headline show, Dublin disco-grunge band MUNKY returns to Whelan’s to launch their new single “7A.M”. It’s like a birthday party of sorts but instead of cake and a bouncy castle it’s slices of pure fat, filthy funk and bouncy beats. MUNKY have had a busy year. Performing at festivals such as Longitude and Electric Picnic, supporting renowned acts such as Le Galaxie, Raglans, and The Hot Sprockets, and playing some of Dublin’s premier venues such as District 8, The Academy and of course Whelan’s, as well as shows all over the country. MUNKY have garnered a dedicated and enthusiastic following in a short space of time, but they’re friendly lads and always looking to make new friends, fans and maybe more (Boojum sponsorship please xx) What people are saying about 7AM “Slick amalgamation of swaggering 70’s blues-rock and funk with a 21st century twist…From one of the capital city’s most rewarding live performers.” – Remy’s Music and Film Blog “These guys know how to deliver a clean cut, crisp track while blurring it with wobbly psychedelia and adding a healthy dose of fuzz on top. Their disco flavoured grunge is infectious, it’s foot tapping body movingly delicious.” – Indiebuddie.ie “Not all bands currently emerging on the Irish music circuit have the sonic innovation and inherent fun that exudes effortlessly from Dublin quartet, MUNKY”. – State.ie So come and join MUNKY for a night of bops, booze and bops, the lads would love to have you down. Sure they’re lovely and so are you. xxTICKETS

PINHOLE
http://www.facebook.com/pinholemusic Pinhole are a quirky Irish-based 4 piece, brandishing the “alternative” flag but deliberately skating over genre boundaries with the result that they stand alone in their unique sound. Having tried and tested new material in venues in Dublin and Cork. (Whelans, The Bello Bar, Coughlans of Cork) they are presently industriously conjuring up their debut album. Their first EP “Between the Babes and the Birds” was played on 2FM, Today FM and Newstalk. They have appeared on the infamous Other Voices TV series. Their tangental approach to song writing has been likened to being “in a dark fairytale”. It is refreshingly new and addressing topical issues. From delicate melodies to raw mayhem, they take you on a roller coaster journey of the senses. They have been likened to a reinvented Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Bat for Lashes and Portishead to name a few… — — — — —SILLK
https://www.facebook.com/Sillk.Music/ ‘A dichotomy of light-hearted play and heavy subject matter, balanced, bearing a wide, irreverent grin.’ – Broadsheet ‘SILLK’s playful and evocative take on folk music is one that is endlessly engrossing and entertaining.’ – Overblown The band formed out of Orla Travers’ necessity; a necessity to tell stories and to write songs. She and Julian Halpin got together in 2010 and travelled the length and breadth of Ireland together, playing music. When they settled in Cork in 2013 and Chris Schmidt-Martin joined the band a year later, things escalated pretty quickly. With Orla’s words as the creative backbone, the three set about creating complex and atmospheric arrangements to match the world about which she was already writing. Because of their varied backgrounds (short story writing; classical, traditional and electronic music; theatre performance and sound design; and hairdressing!), SILLK’s sound and style are hard to pin down. As renowned LA producer Ruairí O’ Flaherty said of the new EP, “each track is its own world.” SILLK’s infectiously fun live show has gained them fans all over Ireland and in the cafes of Istanbul, Reykjavik and Marrakech (let’s just say SILLK don’t travel anywhere without their instruments!)TICKETS
