GRACE WILDE

GRACE WILDE

_ Main Venue _

GRACE WILDE! !! A new phenomenon on the Irish music scene, Grace Wilde are a North Co. Dublin based band, showcasing the music of singer songwriter Audrey Fay. Although elements of jazz, blues, soul, folk and rock can be detected, the songs are highly original and the voice is stunning. Grace Wilde perform both as an acoustic trio (two guitars and a cello) and as a five piece electric band. The full line up is Audrey Fay (vocals and guitar) Enda Duffy (guitar) Shane Fitzsimons (bass) Steve Hogan (drums/percussion) and a guest cellist, usually Vyvienne Long or Mary Barnecutt.

The whole band recently recorded four tracks of their first studio album at Grouse Lodge. These were released recently in Spring 2015 as an EP Bring Me To My Knees with the title track as a download single and video. Grace Wilde will also release a live concert album Let Me In featuring the acoustic trio with Vyvienne Long on cello. Both this album and the studio EP were engineered and produced by the legendary Tony Platt, who has worked with such greats as Bob Marley, ACDC, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy and The Boomtown Rats. The video of the single, directed by Mike Hayes, features leading tango dancers Kristina Chaloir and Julian Brigatti.

Recent times have been exciting for Grace Wilde with several successful gigs at Whelan’s and other leading venues and arts centres. Impressive performances at the YouBloom Festival in Dublin led to an invitation to YouBloom LA 2014 in California. Impactful live appearances were followed by useful direct encounters with leading music and film industry representatives. Back home the band have been making media inroads with a gig at Whelan’s as The Ticket ‘Gig Of The Week’ in The Irish Times, airplay on RTE Radio One’s Late Date and Roots Freeway and live appearances on BBC Radio Ulster’s Gerry Kelly Show, Newstalk’s Green Room and various local stations.

The band have just returned from Germany where they headlined two gigs and played a festival in Lubeck. They were joined by Russian cellist Alexandra Silina and violinist Anush Grigoryan. After a short break to work on new songs, Grace Wilde will return to touring Ireland to promote their new CD’s, with further foreign visits and a return trip to Germany also being planned. If there is any time left after all that, then it’s back to the studio as soon as possible !

With a heavy blend of country, folk, blues, & rock n’roll, Whitetrash, along with his backing band ‘The Spearheaded Sparraw Hawks’ is an Irish band dedicated to the Americana ethos. Whitetrash himself emits a raw, gritty vocal, inspired by the likes of Tom Waits, Howlin’ Wolf, and Johnny Cash; while The Spear Headed Sparraw Hawks layer an appropriate musical trip down the path of Whitetrash’s vision. They gigged most of the Dublin music scene, with a string of successful Festival appearances including Knockanstockan, Life Fest, Jack of Diamonds and so on! A big appearance for Whitetrash, was supporting the great Reverond Peyton’s Big Damn Band during his tour hitting Dublin. Whitetrash have just released their debut EP ‘Lostman’, 5 tracks that so far best summarise the abilities of this band, so make sure to check it out & any upcoming gig for a night of ruckus!

We’re recording a new EP and we want to try out the songs to see if you pelt us with tomatoes (or other less appealing food items) or if you nod along in approval. We haven’t played Whelan’s in too long and last time we did Sarah’s guitar fell off her so we’re hoping to redeem ourselves this time round. So get wavy (my hairdresser taught what this meant) and come haaang. It’s free entry if you post on the event page. Did you hear Brian McFadden and Vogue Williams broke up? Devo isn’t the word. Showcasing the best new talent in Ireland. ——— Hooligan are back with their brand new “Criminal Damage” ep on Oi! The Boat Records. From the opening guitar salvo of the title track, it builds on the sound that had listeners hooked on the “No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs” 7″ EP. Frontman David Linehan’s songwriting is as strong as anyone today, achieving a classic punk rock feel with the effortlessness that you would expect from someone that was a part of the scene through the tumult of the UK in the 80’s. The record also features guest appearances from Tony Van Frater (Cockney Rejects) on guitar and bass, with Decca Wade and Nicky Buck (original and latter day Angelic Upstarts) splitting drum duties. Produced by Mond Cowie (Angelic Upstarts) and Decca Wade. These 4 songs are built on a solid framework of punk rock longevity and to quote Mr. Linehan, “The result sounds class.” Yes it does! The live line-up is: David Linehan (Guitar, Vocals), Adrian Csapo (Bass), Jean Philipe Morer (Drums).

MICK FLANNERY

EW HARRIS

^ Upstairs ^ http://www.caseyblackmusic.com/ Casey Black is the Nashville-born, Columbia-University-educated, gravel-voiced, literary singer-songwriting son of Charlie Black, NSAI Hall of Fame songwriter of more than a  dozen #1 country hits. Casey wrote his first song at twelve years old, released his first “record” three years later (a cassette of songs he recorded in his basement on his father’s hand-me-down equipment), and signed with EMI Music Publishing Nashville at nineteen, making him one of the youngest staff songwriters on Music Row. There he wrote with some of the Row’s greatest writers, including his father, and according to Casey, got “all the cocky, prima-donna, young-artist stuff beaten out of me by people who actually knew how to write songs.” While his craft improved, his muse became aloof during his three years at EMI, and so, in order to “be as poor and lost as other people my age–to have something true to write about,” Casey moved to Los Angeles. In the next five years he made two records–Vacations, and The Glass is Half–the first of which was placed on KCRW Los Angeles deejay Tricia Halloran’s top 10 records of 2005; the second having songs placed on ABC’s show Greek, and Lifetime’s Army Wives. He also cut his live-show teeth, playing some of LA’s great singer-songwriter venues, like the House of Blues and Hotel Cafe. In 2008, in order to finish his degree at Columbia University, Casey moved again, this time to New York, and after a school-induced music hiatus, he happened upon a show featuring Niall Connolly, the Irish-born figurehead of Brooklyn’s Big City Folk scene. Inspired by the literary and honest approach to songwriting of the scene’s players, he threw himself back into music and made his third record, It Shapes Me As It Goes, before playing shows in New England, the South, LA and Ireland. Drawing a close to a circular decade, Casey returned to Tennessee in 2012, where he lives with his wife in a small country house outside of Nashville. He released his fourth album, Lay You In The Loam (CatBeach Records) a year later, and took it on tour to Germany and Ireland, the latter opening for the chart topping Irish singer songwriter, Mick Flannery. The record broke into the top ten on college radio. His new record, Sea The Black Sea, will be released in Europe on September 11, 2015, on Tonetoaster Records, and will be followed by a long European tour. Casey, who owns more books than he does records, writes a literary lyric in the conversational, storytelling style–songs about optimistic pessimists, about the battles between the brain and the guts–and his deep singing voice is tumbled with gravel. It’s a unique and compelling combination, one which may, as KCRW’s Tricia Halloran put it, restore one’s “faith in the lost art of damn fine songwriting.” — — — — —

One of Canada’s most lauded new bands, Petunia and the Vipers have been joined on stage by Exene Cervenka from punk roots legends X and Phil Alvin of Blasters fame on recent shows. For this show, Petunia is touring solo playing new takes on old time classics, and new songs with practised old time ethos. With a smidge of ragtime, some dixieland jazz, with a hint of bebop jazz, some Western swing and old fashioned cowboy music, some jug band and string band music. Petunia’s music grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. His singing ranges from the most delicate you’ve ever heard to the most powerful, often within a single song. With a piercing gaze, he will look into the collective soul of the audience, and launch into some high and lonesome vocals that conjure up the ghost of Jimmie Rodgers. His tapping boot will propel you into a snarling fire and brimstone rave-up as a wave of frantic jitterbuggers compete for space on the hardwood dance floor…hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show.

plus support ^upstairs^ http://mattmcginnmusic.com/ “Darkest Before the Day, what a truly beautiful track… Matt, your album is superb.  I’ve seen Matt play live, he’s fantastic… and Latter Day Sinner is a beautiful album.” BOB HARRIS – Radio 2 Matt McGinn has been a lynch-pin on the Irish music scene for a long time. Over the years he has been the go to sessions musician for a wealth of Irish artists and as a result sharing the bill with the likes of Paul McCartney, Crowed House and Crosby Stills & Nash. But now, with his songs appearing on TV shows around the world, and the release of his second album, ‘Latter Day Sinner’,  Matt has emerged as one Ireland’s singer songwriters. His list of fans includes Radio 2’s Whispering Bob Harris, Nanci Griffith and Kim Richey to name but a few. Matt’s songs flow straight from the heart and his live performances and personality make them even more poignant. After releasing his début album ‘Livin” in 2011 to much acclaim, Matt has enjoyed much success touring worldwide, performing with everyone from Nanci Griffith to Kim Richey. But, with the birth of his son last year, he came off the road and knuckled down to making album number two. It features contributions from many friends met along the way, from Canadian born songstress Madeleine Slate to Willie Nelson’s long-standing harmonica player, Mickey Raphael.  As much as he loves being in the studio recording and producing it’s live where the magic really happens. Because of Matt’s immediate bond with an audience and surrounded by some of Ireland’s best musicians, no two shows will ever be the same. ‘McGinn elevates the congregation by his presence, humility, subtle wit, gentle banter, and sheer song-writing brilliance.’ JULIE WILLIAMS NASH reviews a LIVE MATT MCGINN CONCERT

By blending some heavy sounds with rock grooves and heartfelt melodies their repertoire is vast, dynamic and consistently interesting. Solid Sun’s influences are quite broad and with a motto of “write what you feel, not for a genre” they have a song for all tastes. Their roots sit mainly in Rock, Modern Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. Bands like Pearl Jam, Volbeat, Foo Fighters, Slash and Black Stone Cherry as well as traditional Irish Music styles lend themselves to the Solid Sun sound. Wearing their influences on their sleeve Solid Sun has an incredible distinctive sound and are instantly recognizable. After an active debut year the band have continually grown from strength to strength delivering a great rock show. 2014 also saw them hit the road around Ireland in support of Australian band Acca/Dacca. The tour which included shows in Dublin, Wexford, Cork, Navan, Derry and Dundalk, saw Solid Sun greatly received by sell out crowds and increase a loyal and dedicated fanbase. With their Debut EP “Fall In Line” set for release this August, along with more material later this year, acquiring experienced management, and notable upcoming gigs such as The Cauldron 2015 – Button Factory, along with an Irish tour in Oct/Nov, the band continues where they left off in 2014…. rocking the masses!
