Little Gem Records Present: Nimoy by GODHATESDISCO

Following the success of their first release ‘Sick At Heart’ (parts 1-3), Nimoy is the first release from the forthcoming debut album by GODHATESDISCO. Employing twin bass guitars and a table full of electronics, including samplers, drum machines and custom made noise makers, the duo make unknown wave music to defy and satisfy all musical palates. Sampling elements of Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto’s ‘A Time-Lapse of Every Nuclear Explosion since 1945’, alongside discussions from Leonard Nimoy’s popular science based television program ‘In Search of..’, GODHATESDISCO create a buoyant and driving sonic exploration that demands to be played on repeat. Nimoy will be available on CD, Cassette & special edition little gem player with the rest of the EP consisting of the opus B side ‘Uniformitarian Naturalism’. Little Gem Players are a release specific high quality audio player which require no downloads or computer connections, only a set of headphones or a stereo. ”Incorporating Steve Reich-esque use of found sound (a clip of Mario Savio’s affecting 1964 “Bodies upon the gears” speech) and a growling backdrop of claustrophobic, repressive textures, ‘Sick at Heart’ is an unforgiving piece of post-minimalism that challenges and ultimately rewards the listener. Uncompromising and unique, God Hates Disco have carved out a definite tonal edge in ‘Sick At Heart’ that captures upheaval and frustration sonically, through a harsh collage of experimentalism and alternative-rock leanings.” The Last Mixed Tape on ‘Sick at Heart’ ////////

LANDLESS

http://landless.bandcamp.com Landless are Ruth Clinton, Meabh Meir, Sinead Lynch and Lily Power. They sing unaccompanied traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America in close four part harmony. Their repertoire features traditional songs both well-know and unusual, as well as shape-note hymns, song of emigration and more recent folk songs. Landless have performed at singing sessions and folk clubs in Ireland and beyond, and supported contemporary acts such as Alasdair Roberts, Richard Dawson, Nathan Salsburg and Lisa O’Neill.

Having established himself as one of the leading players in the electronic music scene, he has pushed his boundaries and graduated onto a fully formed live project. This show is sure to be really special and a chance to see Jam City in a unique setting that probably won’t ever happen again! JAM CITY: Since 2010, Jack Latham has released forward thinking, sound system-ready music under the alias Jam City. After a string of EPs, his highly influential debut album Classical Curves was released via Night Slugs to critical acclaim in 2012, and was quickly followed by Club Constructions Vol 6. In addition to this, his work on Kelela’s seminal breakout mixtape Cut 4 Me showcased a subtle, spacious and deftly emotional side to his writing and production. With the lead single Unhappy, Jam weds this approach to songwriting to the industrial drums, howling synthesiser leads and 21st century anxiety that have since become his trademark. It is the first single to be taken from his upcoming sophomore album, to be released on Night Slugs in early 2015. In October 2014 Jam City performed his debut live set at Krakow’s esteemed Unsound Festival, marrying the textures and frequencies of his long DJ career with brand-new album material that moved towards a psychedelic, gothic, funk music that is as chaotic as it is sincere.

Tickets priced €20 inclusive of booking fee go on sale this Friday, 20 June at 9am from Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.ie Blazing out the blocks with two and half minutes of pure power pop, Ash make their ‘Ash Wednesday’ return with Cocoon-  the first single from their forthcoming studio album Kablammo! Cocoon is full of the compact three-piece bombast that has made Ash one of the country’s best-loved bands.  “It’s Ash at their frenetic best: a wall of guitars and a shot of adrenaline with a sweet melodic chaser”, says Rick McMurray . “One of the earliest songs written for the forthcoming album, you can hear how excited the three of us are to be back in the same room. Having this much fun crammed into two and a half minutes is probably illegal.” Commenting on the new album – “After a wait of 8 years, and a long string of singles, we’ve gone on to do what we said we would never do again: we’ve only gone and recorded a brand new album!” “We set out to capture the live essence of Ash, the closest sonic predecessor would be 2004’s ‘Meltdown’, with the songwriting of the ‘Free All Angels’ singles. . We’ve stripped away the electronic overtones of the A-Z series and made a streamlined blazing guitar record.” “On every song you can hear what makes this band tick, our beating (atomic) heart. It’s a visceral expression of what has driven us since 1992. Passion, melody and Ash.”

ARRON SPEARS

Buy-now-button-master2 Musicmaker and Whelans presents

AARON SPEARS

_ Main Venue _ Tickets now on Sale for our “Evening with Aaron Spears” in Whelans on Thursday March 19th at 8:30pm Doors 8pm Over 18 Event Bio: Aaron was born October 26, 1976. He was just in time for Halloween where I’m sure his wish was to be dressed as a drummer. His parents recognized his love for music very early. Their peace and quiet was willingly sacrificed to the sounds of him banging and clanging on anything he could get his baby hands on. As he grew, so did his passion for the drums and love for music. His parents raised him in a Pentecostal church in DC. That’s where he got his first taste of playing with a band. He would sit on the first pew of the church closest to the drums, with his sticks in hand, feigning for his turn to play. Aaron would finally get his turn at the age of 23, when he hooked up with a local band in DC called Gideon Band (GB). Their music is best described as a fusion of jazz, R&B and rock, serving as the foundation for lyrics spreading God’s word. It was with GB that Aaron began to really express himself as a musician and gained the attention of people not only in his local area but also all over the country. It was his work with them and the great timing of one of his mentors, Gerald Heyward, which helped him to gain the audience of Usher’s MD Valdez Brantley. Valdez took a liking to his playing and showed interest in working with him and helping to smooth out some of his rough spots. It was there, working with Val, that Aaron’s understanding and musicality took off to incredible heights. Joining Usher’s camp has not only awarded Aaron the opportunity to play with some of the greatest musicians on the planet in the form of Juan “Natural” Najera, Arthur Strong, Valdez Brantley, but also worked with them to produce 2 tracks on Usher’s multi-platinum CD “Confessions.” Aaron later continued with the “Funk Rock Orchestra” (Usher’s Band) as they toured all over the world for the next year and a half. He felt extremely blessed to be able to see countries and cities his parents only dreamed of. It was on this tour that Aaron began to gain some major attention and found his name in the same sentences with some of his heroes and greatest influences. Aaron attributes his success first to God. He recognizes God as being the driving force in his life and his playing. Aaron also recognizes a host of great players thru the years who he has looked to as inspiration. Michael Williams, Joel Smith, Jeff Davis, Kevin Brunson, Gerald Heyward, Teddy Campbell, Dennis Chambers, Steve Smith, Vinnie Colaiuta, Simon Phillips, Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl, Chris Dave, Michael Bland, Carter Beauford, Papa Jo Jones, Travis Barker, Stewart Copeland, Paul “Buggy” Edwards, Milton Smith, Steve Gadd, Calvin Rogers, Little John Roberts, Adrian Young, Brian Frasier-Moore, and Nissan Stuart are some of the musicians that have helped to influence and inspire Aaron.

TOM RAINEY’S ‘OBBLIGATO’

Buy-now-button-master2 Improvised Music Company presents:

Tom Rainey’s ‘OBBLIGATO’

PLUS SUPPORT The CEO Experiment _ Main Venue _ Tom Rainey – DRUMS Ralph Alessi – TRUMPET Ingrid Laubrock – TENOR SAX Kris Davis – PIANO Drew Gress – BASS “A cutting-edge lineup and a no-prisoners approach…” – The GuardianIntrepid percussionist Tom Rainey is at the helm of this stellar line up of the finest players that the New York jazz scene has to offer, featuring trumpeter Ralph Alessi, saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, bassist Drew Gress and Canadian pianist Kris Davis. Greater than the sum of its parts, the group’s democratic interplay and intuitive listening results in a irresistible rapport. The album ‘Obbligato’ was released last year on Switzerland’s Intakt label, which has a reputation for challenging, free form music. However this project sees a deconstruction of Great American Songbook standards, intriguingly reinterpreted as impressionistic sketches by a multi-generational group of acclaimed artists, and played to the very highest standard with energetic group interplay. Tom Rainey has been a fixture in New York’s Downtown scene since the early ‘90s, his experiments in form and structure with peers such as Tim Berne, Andy Laster and Tom Varner an integral part of the development of the scene. The stalwart drummer’s current efforts have found him collaborating with a new generation of creative improvisers like Ingrid Laubrock and Mary Halvorson. This fearless project will appeal to straight-jazz fans and the improv hardcore alike.
