VYVIENNE LONG

+ guests Whelanslive presents VYVIENNE LONG + cello-featuring band. Songs from her entrancing debut album Caterpillar Sarabande. “..boundlessly talented cellist and arranger. Here, on her debut full length album, she displays all her talent, confidence and humour to fabulous effect.” (State Magazine) Rising star, petite and quirky Vyvienne Long first achieved celebrity as a cellist in collaboration with singer-songwriter Damien Rice, producing the soaring melodies and distinctive sound associated with his albums O and 9. International tours followed during which she instantly charmed fans with her unique ‘cello song’ and quirky take on the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”. She soon began writing her own vocal material and formed a core band which typically includes three cellos, piano, drums and bass. Vyvienne released the EP Birdtalk in 2006, and her debut album, Caterpillar Sarabande, in 2010. “Happy Thoughts”, the final track of her album helped sell a lot of cheese! Her live performances include Other Voices (TV series), The Late Late Show, The View, the JK Ensemble “Sessions” (Lyric FM), and critically acclaimed gigs at The Electric Picnic and Spiegeltent in 2008. Admired as a compelling vocalist and songwriter of incisive wit, critics have drawn comparisons with Bjork, Tori Amos and Joanna Newsome. Vyvienne’s music is available on itunes and amazon, on her website (www.vyviennelong.com), and at all good record stores. “…moves lightfootedly between frantic art-rock, heartfelt piano balladry and Bjork-esque weirdo pop…’’ (The Independent)
