Tupelo are an award-winning alt-folk act hailing from Ireland. Featuring 4 members from different musical backgrounds and an all acoustic line-up, the band got together in 2008 and set about creating a sound which can only be described as unique, a result of the melting pot of influences brought to the table from the individual members. Over the years, Tupelo have collected an eclectic array of instruments including double bass, acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, dobro and several banjos which they incorporate into their music. A hardworking band, Tupelo enjoy the road and have played an impressive number of gigs since the band’s formation, appearing at major festivals, playing support to some of music’s biggest acts and attracting plenty of fans along the way, which they thrive off. In May 2011 Tupelo signed to Crashed Records and released their 14 track debut album ‘Dirty Money’ on September 23rd. An appearance at the All-Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park in front of 80,000 people was the opportunity of a lifetime for Tupelo. Several tracks from the album such as ‘Don’t Let Go’, ‘Firefly’, and ‘Irishman’ were released as singles and received rave reviews as well as plenty of airplay from Irish and UK radio stations including RTE Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2. The summer of 2012 saw Tupelo embark on their first overseas tour with a string of dates in the UK and Denmark. Great news was to follow for the band in March 2013 when they were announced as the ‘Best Folk Act 2013’ by the music magazine, Hot Press. They also travelled to Russia for the first time in early 2013 as well as embarking on a wider European tour in the summer taking in countries including France, Norway, as well as a return to Denmark , the UK and Russia. January 2014 saw the band head to Denmark once again for a 12 date sold out tour which went down a storm and the summer was a busy time with Tupelo playing across Europe and taking in several countries; Norway, Denmark, Belgium as well as a tour of Holland in October. In between the touring, Tupelo managed to escape to a wonderful country manor in the beautiful surroundings of County Wicklow for a couple of weeks where they recorded a batch of new songs with the help of producer Joe Chester. A 4 track EP titled ‘Ballerina’s Call’ was released in September with the full album release titled ‘Push On’ released in February. The new album debuted at no. 7 in the Danish iTunes charts and no. 12 on the the Irish iTunes charts with the first single from the album, ‘Old Country’ receiving nationwide radio airplay. Two more singles followed, ‘The Shifting Ground’ featuring Sharon Shannon as well as the recent release of ‘Yesterday’s News’ featuring another Irish great in Eleanor McEvoy. Tupelo also recently released a deluxe version of their album ‘Push On’ which includes a live EP ‘Nail and Tooth’ and was recorded in Whelan’s, Dublin earlier this year. The whole package is available exclusively on iTunes. Check out the video for ‘Yesterday’s News’ below. ‘Yesterday’s News’ featuring Eleanor McEvoy is available now from iTunes at the following link: https://itunes.apple.com/ie/album/yesterdays-news-feat.-eleanor/id927425230 ///////

QUOTES

“…Grade A acoustic musicianship…” – Jackie Hayden “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tupelo a great band from Dublin. They have a wonderful sound, great musicianship and fantastic songswriting. They have a rootsy sound of great mixtures from blues and country to trad. They move the audience from mood to mood with ease from heartfelt patriotism to pure good auld fashioned fun with their brilliant songs. With their lead singers charm and the bands sense of fun they’ll have you in the palm of their hand. What more could you want?” Imelda May “A Refreshing Irish/Americana blend, part-traditional, part-Nashville with a trickle of folk…beautiful” – Sunday Times “Worthy of a place on the devils jukebox, with its Mumford-esque mix of bar-room jauntiness and appropriated Americanisms. Deeply Charming” – Metro “Our favourite rootsy-rockers”…..“The banjo has never been so cool” – Hot Press
