After performing around the country at a number of open mics, festivals and support slots as various incarnations throughout 2014 and the early part of 2015, Laura Hand joined as permanent co-lead vocalist in the Autumn of ’15 and the duo settled down to work on a batch of new songs and perform a handful of gigs in the Kilkenny and Dublin areas. With the recording of an EP just completed and due for release in late April 2016, the band are currently working with Frieda Freytag (Fox Owl Crow, Dave Couse) on cello and piano and Joe Maher (The Mariannes) on guitar to help broaden their sound and introduce more dynamics to the songs and hope to be busy on the gig circuit for 2016. “With some deft touches in songwriting and arrangements, the Southern Fold are a new prospect on the alt‐folk scene here. Their songs are known for their troubling lyrics, beautiful melodies and strong instrumentation. The band released the Lost with All Hands EP in April 2015, and launched to a packed Whelan’s main venue. The EP has since garnered positive reviews both at home and abroad. They followed up on this success with the launch of the poignant “Black Diary Waltz” single in March of 2016. ‘one of the most interesting acts on the alt-folk scene. Haunting lyrics, breath-taking melodies and stunning vocal harmonies’  – Ceol Collective ‘it is easy to hear why Irish music critics are so taken with the Mariannes.
