The Riptorns are an Irish alternative rock band formed in 2009 when Alex Montemor responded to an ad for a lead vocalist to join brothers Colin Nugent on guitar and Keith Nugent on bass along with their old school friend Mark Beirne on drums.
The Riptorns are known for their high tempo rock tunes comprising of melodic vocals and beefy guitar riffs. The band point to Foo Fighters as their main influence.
Since forming, The Riptorns have regularly played Dublin venue’s such as Whelan’s, The Village, The Sugar Club and The Button Factory.
The band won 2 rounds of the Guiness Our Thursday’s battle of the bands to go on to headline Arthur’s Day 2010.
The Riptorns premiered their 1st single “Crawling” on Radio Nova’s Local’s Only show on Sunday August 7th 2011 which they are scheduled to release their during late Autumn 2011.
