THE BOGEY BOYS

THE BOGEY BOYS

+ 2MORROWS PARTY

Legendary Irish rock band The Bogey Boys have reformed and are playing selected dates around Ireland in March/April 2012.

The Band was originally formed in Dublin in the Late Seventies.

They immediately developed a reputation for being a blistering live act and toured and recorded constantly in the Eighties. They toured with acts like Dr.Feelgood,Wilko Johnson, Rory Gallagher,Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, The Kinks, and Alvin Lee from Ten Years After to name just a few.

They recorded their debut album ‘Friday Night’ in Windmill Lane in Dublin which spawned the eponymous radio hit single. The band, after signing to Chrysalis Records, relocated to London, where they had some famous residencies in the Marquee, Rock Garden and the Legendary Hope and Anchor in Islington. They were included in the seminal ‘London R’n’B sessions’ album recorded there- which included some of the artists already mentioned and others like Lew Lewis and Savoy Brown.

The band recorded their second album,’Jimmy Did it’ in Rory Gallagher’s ( they met him when they opened for his National stadium gigs the year before, and he was so impressed by them that he insisted on them using his facility!) point Studios in Victoria with Rory’s producer Alan O’Duffy at the helm. (Jimmy used the famous Rory strat on a track or two! Easily spotted!)

The band continued to be a huge draw in Ireland, playing clubs, pubs, theatres and big Open Air Festivals with The Pretenders, Madness,Judas Priest, Rockpile, The Undertones, Status Quo, all the while  releasing singles that werent on the albums ( a policy inspired by Punk Rock) and had top ten hits with the singles ‘Death of a Clown’,’No Rock and Roll Tonight’ and ‘Obituary’.

 The 2012 Line-up includes:

JIMMY SMYTH (Guitar and vocals), whose CV speaks for itself:

He is regarded as one of the best guitarists the country has ever produced ( and, there have been a few!!!)

He has been a guitarist/producer for many big names(Van Morrison,Toni Childs,Gilbert O’Sullivan-the list goes on-,and boasts a Grammy Nomination amongst his many achievements.

DONAL NAGLE (bass & Vox) Was a founder member also. After the Bogeys first went their seperate ways, Doish joined Phil Lynott’s Grand Slam, touring and recording with him right up until his untimely end.

TONY SMYTH (drums and vox),  was a later member, but brought a heavier, rootsy organic feel to the band, playing on the last few singles, he was also in the band when they were touring the US ( where the Band finally called it a day in 1985)

Since then, he has drummed with Michael Schenker, Paul Cleary, The Partisans to name a few..

The Band’s  set will consist of Bogey Boys material old and new, also some little known P.Lynott tunes from the Grand Slam era, alongside some select favourite blues covers-something the Bogeys were known for…

The reformation came about at the request of Smiley Bolger, who suggested Doish and Jimmy, along with Tony, play the ‘Vibe for Philo’ this year, as a ‘water-testing’ exercise.

All concerned were very pleased with the results, and there has been a lot of contact via emails, texts, letters from rockers interested in seeing the Boys play together again.  So. Heres your chance.

Kicking off in Waterford Forum on the 3rd and Whelans on the 4th March its The Bogey Boys 2012.

A Big Chunk of Rock with a side order of Roll from men who know how this sort of thing works!!

Miss them at your peril!!!
