“[The Amazons] are already getting people hot under the collar with their rowdy rock’n’roll.” – Beat Magazine

The Amazons have announced a headline date at Whelan’s, Wexford Street on March 7th 2017.

Tickets priced €13 inclusive of booking fee go on sale at 10am this Friday, November 25th from Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.ie

Following their recent Q Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Act, The Amazons’ upwards momentum continues with the news that their brand new track ‘Little Something’ has been chosen as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World. Now available to download and stream, ‘Little Something’ impacts on January 20th.

Produced by Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, Foals, The Vaccines), ‘Little Something’ elevates the clash of melody and aggression that simmered in The Amazons’ previous single ‘In My Mind’. It starts with an ominous air of moody atmospherics before erupting into a fiery ball of energy following a dynamic breakdown that inspires chaos when the band performs it live.

“‘Little Something’ represents the darkest and heaviest place we’ve pushed our music to,” says frontman Matt Thomson. “It’s a predatory lyric based around the hunt for an obsession that’s out of reach, and then in the darkness and failure of reaching it, finding yourself becoming something you’re not.”

‘Little Something’ will also feature on the band’s debut album which has been recorded with Catherine Marks in Flood and Alan Moulder’s famous Assault and Battery studio in London.

Still in their early twenties, Thomson and guitarist Chris Alderton have been friends since childhood, and the band is completed by Elliott Briggs (bass) and Joe Emmett (drums). They hit upon their current sound after being inspired by a Foals gig at Alexandra Palace in 2014 which shifted their perception of what a contemporary rock band could be. They focused their energies on their early influences – Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin – and their music evolved to become heavy, loud and primal.

The Amazons first attracted a whirlwind of attention after uploaded their demo of ‘Something In The Water’ to SoundCloud. By 2015, their reputation had grown to the extent that they were invited to support The Kooks on their European tour where they played shows in venues which scaled up to a 7000 people capacity. More accomplishments soon followed: their debut single ‘Junk Food Forever’ was released on their own Goth Cruise label, while a homecoming set at the Reading Festival’s BBC Introducing stage proved to be a triumphant moment which demonstrated that they’re ready to take on the rest of the world.

They’re backed by strong support at Radio 1 where Huw Stephens, Annie Mac, Clara Amfo, Nick Grimshaw and Greg James are all fans, as is 6Music’s Steve Lamacq. They’ve all been backing the propulsive, stadium-worthy ‘Nightdriving’ and the heavy stomp of ‘In My Mind’. Their radio support started early on when Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, then still at Radio 1, played their early demo of ‘Stay With Me’ and made it his Next Hype at the start of 2014. ‘In My Mind’ most recently hit the Radio 1 In New Music We Trust playlist. Virgin, Radio X and Amazing Radio have all also playlisted the band.
