STEPHEN ROBINSON

plus guests OH BRYAN & STINA _ Main Venue _ As former front-man with iconic Dublin band Angels of Mons and later The Laundry Shop, Robinson has well paid his Rock n’ Roll dues, extensively touring, playing large festivals and releasing 3 albums to huge critical acclaim. After an extended period in L.A and New York while working with Multi-platinum award winning producers David Bendeth and Dan Korneff, the pressure of keeping a steady line up on the road lead Robinson to take the solo route.“There was something very liberating about leaving the constructs of a band and being able to just show up with a acoustic guitar and play”. On returning to Dublin, Robinson founded his own recording studio and threw himself into learning the craft of music production. His new found freedom lead him to jam with lots of excellent musicians, culminating in the release of the excellent, The Rest Of The Night Ep in 2015. After which, work on the full length album began. 4 years later and due to his Obsessive Compulsive sense of perfectionism and curiosity in exploring production techniques the album is finally complete and being prepped for release later this year. A lot of “real life” happened since I started recording this record.I got married and we had our first child. I had pretty much given up and lost all faith in the music industry until one day my 14 month old boy hands me his toy guitar to play for him. He started dancing and laughing with Joy. It was quite a profound moment which reawakened in me a huge appreciation for the instinctive human connection with music we all share at our very core. To be able to express it and enjoy it is a gift and should be cherished and not squandered” Robinson set about assembling a killer band and recorded a 5 track live studio session. These performances were filmed and are currently being released as a series via Youtube to an excellent reception. The following months will see these live recordings released as a 2nd E.P before the album arrives later on in the year with a Dublin based launch party and subsequent tour. Although Robinson is an extremely proficient guitarist and owns a voice that can be velvet smooth soulful one moment to gritty blues holler the next, his ultimate strength is as a Songwriter. The album is full of perfectly crafted songs with huge choruses and hooks the listener will find hard to forget after even one listen. Stylistically there is a 70’s nostalgic hue hanging over the arrangements and production. Robinson clearly aspires to an era where the songwriter was front and centre rather than any particular genre or style. For this reason his music touches on everything from full on Electric Gospel Blues to Brazilian Bossa Nova and Psychedelic wig outs. You can also hear elements of Heartland Americana and Folk. The crossover track on the record is the emotionally charged balled,”Get A Little Closer”. Throughout the record, Robinson’s voice and style as a writer give it all the perfect cohesion.
