SLOW MOVING CLOUDS are Aki (Nyckelharpa & Vocals), Kevin Murphy (Cello & Vocals) and Ultan O’Brien (Fiddle).

Post-rock you’ve probably heard of, but post-folk may just be a completely new musical style. However, there’s nothing contrived about the music of Slow Moving Clouds, whose music effortlessly and organically fuses elements of the Irish and Nordic folk traditions with more contemporary sounds for a beguiling mix that has been described as Sigur Ros meets The Gloaming.

Together with original fiddle player, Danny Diamond, Slow Moving Clouds’ critically acclaimed 2015 debut album, Os, was hailed as ‘rich, intriguing and accomplished’ Jim Carroll (The Irish Times); and ’emotive, euphoric and unique music’ Steve Hunt (fRoots). They followed this up with 2018’s Starfall, which added indie and experimental influences to their folk roots, expanding the sonic palette and power of their earlier work. The album was released digitally through the PEOPLE music platform, led by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and the Dessner brothers (The National).   Everywhere they played, their unique sound has won them admirers, most recently a UK tour with Jenny Lewis, performing at The Brighton Festival 2019, while also opening for Feist at the Sounds From a Safe Harbour Festival in Cork.  Other recent highlights include performing at the PEOPLE residency/festival at Funkhaus, Berlin, in 2018; the 3Arena, Dublin (with Ludovico Einaudi); Sydney Opera House (with Teac Damsa’s Swan Loch/Loch na hEala); and at legendary Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes’ ‘Masters of Tradition’ festival.

Slow Moving Clouds are currently working on their 3rd album to be released in 2021.

‘rich, intriguing and accomplished’ Jim Carroll (The Irish Times)

‘emotive, euphoric and unique music’ Steve Hunt (fRoots)

‘a perfect mix of the earthy and the ethereal’ Fintan O’Toole (The Irish Times)

‘Irish-Nordic heaven’ fRoots (Twitter)

‘from the liveliness of a céilí to the bleak solitude of a Bergman film’ Sophie Gorman (Irish Independent)
