QUEEN HEROD

QUEEN HEROD

+ SAMUEL & TICKLY TEETH

Queen Herod is a musical project of Holly Pereira, an artist and musician from Dublin.

This EP is her debut record, written and produced in 2012. It was recorded by Niall Murphy (Blind Yackety, Cocaine Ponytail) at Blackhound Studios and Rian Trench (Solar Bears, Rocket Surgery) at the Meadows. She did the EP artwork, as her speciality is illustrated typography (www.hollypereira.org)

Pereira grew up on a diet of Grease (The Musical), Joni Mitchell and Queen. Her ideal musical dinner date would include Bjork, Billie Holiday and Marvin Gaye; and perhaps a nightcap with Chet Baker and Bill Calahan. She pines for the halcyon days of Doo Wop backing vocals and a handy Telecaster riff.

She carves songs out of heartbreak, unrequited love and bitter endings. The often unrelentingly catchy hooks belie keen observations of the human condition and are supported throughout with hammond organs, surf-rock guitars and kitsch-sounding keys. Her vocals can be sweet and clean, or bitchy and expressive. A dark sense of humour is evident in the singalong melodies and often sharp and telling lyrics.

The release gig for this EP will be in Whelans on Wexford St on December 13th 2012. She will be joined by Tickly Teeth (www.samuelarnold.bandcamp.com) and superextraspecialsurprise guests who will be announced on December 1st.

For the gig, she has the honour of being joined by Christopher Connaughton (Rocket Surgery) on drums, Tumultous Falcon (Blind Yackety) on guitar and Tim Fernley (Gypsy Rebel Rabble,Louisianna Six) on double bass, and other assorted musicians and singers.

She would be delighted if you would join her at the gig on December 13th, and if you like what you hear on the record, please write/broadcast/tweet/blog/tell your mum about it.

She is also a longtime member of Blind Yackety.
