NEWCO

Newco. are the product of over a year’s writing and recording, and some excellent collaborations. Comprising brothers Donal (25) and Rob Cumiskey (26), and Brian Higgins (26), they left their native Dublin and took a house on the beach in Wexford in the middle of winter 2011 with a view to creating an album that reflected our current state of affairs.

After some months of refining and poring over their material, they engaged sound engineer Pete Sisk and producer Stephen Shannon (Choice Prize winner with Adrian Crowley and musician with Strands and Halfset) to record their debut album.

Oceanic is comprised of a multitude of elements including post punk, pop, electronic and alternative rock and is infused with the various major influences of the band members, such as The Chameleons, Talking Heads, The Doors, New Order, The Smiths, David Bowie, Cocteau Twins and The Cars. Keyboards, guitars, bass and vocal layers were used to build the record, with melodious vocal collaboration from Aoife Ruth (The Last Tycoons, The Annulments) and Molly O’Mahony (Mongoose) and with excellent input from guest drummer David Hingerty (drummer with The Swell Season and Josh Ritter).

Tipped by Sinead Gleeson in The Irish Times (The Ticket) as one of the most promising acts of 2013, Newco. are planning to release their first single in February / March, with an album launch in the autumn, and will be playing at a venue near you from February with plans to tour Ireland. They are joined live by Brian Sinnott on guitars and Paul Donohoe on drums and percussion.
