NEW ROAD

plus support _ Main Venue _Facebook event New Road’s Stone Walls and Street Lights is an absolutely brilliant record, the playing on it is just great and the mish mash and the humor involved. It’s just brilliant stuff. Cerys Matthews (BBC Radio) A glorious soundscape with wide horizons (Irish Times) A most wonderful album… it is a cracker. (Mike Harding Folk Show) …it’s a declaration of love for music as a way of life. (Hot Press) … Superb (Niall Toner, RTÉ Radio 1) Above are reviews of New Road’s “Stone Walls and Street Lights”, the internationally critically acclaimed first CD released in 2016, features tunes and songs with New Road’s unique blend of uilleann pipes, fiddle, harmonica, concertina, 5-‐ string banjo, guitar, mandolin, jaw harp and bodhrán Guest artists on the album include bodhrán legend Johnny “Ringo” McDonagh of Arcady and De Dannan, Cathy Jordan of Dervish and The Unwanted, and Sligo guitarist Shane McGowan, who has performed with Sean Keane, Lunasa and Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain. New Road explore roots that extend across the Atlantic, incorporating Irish traditional, Appalachian old-‐time, blues and beyond, and bringing to the stage a musical experience full of passion and exhilaration, depth and beauty. Their live shows have garnered similar critical acclaim to their recording: … they pinned back the ears of the audience for more than two hours, at the conclusion leaving them roaring for more. (Fatea Magazine) There is a deep love in the musicians for the music that makes them want to communicate with listeners, cracking the music open like a watermelon for others to enjoy. (Trad Review) High octane… virtuoso playing (Celtic Music Radio) New Road were formed in 2013 on the back of Leonard Barry’s album of the same name, on which they all played.
