Proper’s brand of experimental electronic music has seen him be compared to James Blake and Mount Kimbie by Irish music writer Nialler9, as well as gaining recognition from the legendary Roisin Murphy who recently described Hall’s voice as “Gorgeous” New single Dot Dot Dot is the first taste of new music from Proper Micro NV this year. It will precede an EP coming in the Autumn. Hall describes the single as “A little bit more techy and dance driven [than previous releases]. Dot Dot Dot is written about making a decision. A constant back and forth within a human mind and ultimately deciding what to do. The agony of waiting for the answer. It’s actually partly inspired by me deciding what type of collective I wanted to put out next” Proper Micro NV’s debut EP – ‘EP1’ became an instant hit with the critics – with the Irish Times proclaiming that he had “one of the most interesting new voices on the Irish scene in some time”. The new single builds on those foundations but his musical palette has broadened and Dot Dot Dot looks set to be the precursor to this new sound. After the release of ‘EP1’ Month’s later, his second EP ‘It’s Always Raining’ was released which led to the creation of a live set up – his debut gig being the debut of Nialler9 & Homebeats ‘Future Proof’ at the Bello Bar in Dublin. The first single from ‘It’s Always Raining’ – ‘Flaws’ was released on the 3rd of November. In early 2017, Spotify selected Flaws for their official Fresh Finds playlist, causing a large increase in listenership and industry intrigue. This led to a performance on the Wonderlust stage at Body & Soul festival, which tied in with the release of Proper’s third EP ‘Colours’ – a six track collective which gained praise and recognition from Nialler9, Joe.ie and Remy – who called it ” easily one of the best Irish EP’s to be released this year, in any genre.” A string of live performances followed at Hard Working Class Heroes 2017, Whelan’s, The Workman’s, The Grand Social and the Roisin Dubh – with Proper picking up a reputation for his outlandish live show equal of electronic sounds & theatrics, as well as being selected as a State.ie Face of 2018. Now, one year on from his last release – Proper Micro NV returns with a brand new single ‘Dot Dot Dot’ which will form part of a new collective later this year. It’s a different direction for Hall, leaning towards the dance music side of the electronic spectrum yet retaining the poignant and emotional side of his previous releases. “It’s clear dance music and I’m really happy with it. I’m excited and looking forward to putting it out through Strange Brew after a year away.” Says Hall. — — — — —
