“King Charles is set to liven things up in 2012.” Observer

“At last, a fantastically well-connected “glam-folk” star we can call our own.” **** Q

King Charles is an extraordinary man. He doesn’t look like anyone you know, he doesn’t think like anyone you know and he doesn’t make music like anyone you know. King Charles spent his youth reading and listening, thinking and playing. His first ever gig was as part of a fully made-up Kiss tribute band when he was very young (he was Paul Stanley – “no chest wig, sadly”). Now he has put a decent wodge of what he has learnt into a quite extraordinary record that draws down influences from Afro-beat, rock and roll, glam, folk, hip-hop and country.

At the end of 2009 King Charles had a near death skiing accident and as the clock struck midnight on 31st December he was in hospital with his family disquieted by his side. He has no recollection of how he had gotten to be in this state and his brothers have never told him, but he was to remain in intensive care for 10 days with brain trauma, before being transferred back to London. The subsequent months were an unpleasant road to recovery for Charles and he was significantly helped by the almighty power of his love of music but crucially it inspired him to finish writing ‘LoveBlood’.

Several months after the accident he was given the uplifting boost that he needed, by winning the International Song Writing Competition in Nashville for his much loved track ‘Love Lust’. This propelled Charles to begin the writing and recording of his debut album, which for the most part, was recorded in his bedroom with sessions following in Los Angeles. King Charles was invited to support Mumford & Sons on their mammoth US tour, which resulted in him being snapped up by the head of Universal Republic, Monte Lipman.

King Charles has written an album for every extraordinary person out there who loves a pop tune and craves the wild side of music and maybe life. The romance, the revolution and flamboyance frame this clever album with the eloquence of a modern day poet and the skill of a much honed songwriter.

Following the release of his first single from the album, glam-folk extravaganza, ‘Bam Bam’ in November 2011, King Charles was nominated for the MTV Band New for 2012 List, played to a sold out audience at London’s Scala and reignited the musical imagination of many being compared to Mark Bolan and being praised for his uniqueness and unpredictability; “Charles is unlike anyone else.” Sunday Times Culture, “King Charles is set to liven things up in 2012.” Observer and had Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens describe him as a “pop wonder“.

It is not just the UK who are falling for King Charles either. In America, he recently released his first EP ‘Mississippi Isabel’ which debuted in the Itunes Alternative Chart at an incredible number 18.There is a magic in King Charles that is infectious and unique, and has already captured the imagination of fans across the UK and America. He packs out venues wherever he goes.

The heart of each of his songs is lit up by joyous pop and the edges are coloured in by wild and wonderful ideas. If you are interested in songs with some spirit in their belly, songs about love and about life and about people and why they do what they do, if you are the sort of person whose mind is still open to magic, wherever it comes from, then you will like King Charles’ music very much.
