Karen Egan ‘Charlatanne’ album launch in Whelan’s on Fri. 6th March

After a three-year absence from Ireland, Dublin’s drollest diva returns to her homeland to launch her second album. Karen will perform her exciting new songs in a rollercoaster of styles from hip-hop to pop, jazz to country, French ballad to blue-grass and gospel, finishing with a moving rock anthem that will make you feel as if you can change the world.

In a show filled with melody and mischief, this former member of comedy act ‘The Nualas’ promises a night of passion, laughter and endless surprises. Don’t miss this hot, chic chanteuse with a zippy line in laughs. Voilà la Charlatanne!

With:
Cian Boylan (piano/keyboards)
Damian Evans (double bass)
Dave Whyte (Spanish & jazz guitar)
Guy Rickarby (drums and percussion)
Brendan Doyle (alto saxophone, clarinet and flute)

Biog:

Dubbed “post-modern diva and goddaughter of Finland”, Karen has toured extensively throughout Finland, where she was visiting artist with Rakastajat-teatteri, Pori, for the last three years.

In May of this year Karen was awarded artist in residence at the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris. While there she performed as guest artist with Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu at the prestigious Pompidou Centre for Festival de Poèsie, and also as guest artist at Fête de la Musique at the Cultural Centre playing to an audience of 5,000!

On screen, Karen has played the role of singer Deloise Delight in BBC drama series Ripper Street, having also composed the music to the song she was singing. Karen also starred in Your Bad Self (IFTA award-winning comedy television series for RTE).

What the press say:

“Charlatanne?…More like the real thing.” (The Irish Times)

“… the former Nuala comedienne mixes tragicomedy with the grace of a true diva… it’s Egan’s own compositions that stand out … vocally, Egan is no joke.” (Sunday Tribune)

“Absolute unmissable magic” (Hot Press)

“deeply affecting … like being served a cup of tea in fine china”. (GCN)
