If Bruce Springsteen had begun releasing records at the same time as Emmett Tinley and worked at Emmett’s pace we’d currently be lauding the release of Darkness On The Edge Of Town, his fourth studio album which he actually released 5 years into his recording career.

Counting his work with his band vehicle The Prayer Boat, Emmett is about to release his 4th album of original material since the beginning of his recording career in 1991. In this time Bruce had had hit 10 studio albums, a huge boxed live set, an MTV acoustic set and was preparing his first greatest hits package. Emmett’s band The Prayer Boat released two albums (albeit the second one Polichinelle was released more times than Bruce has band members) and now comes the Irish release of his second solo album. Luckily they are all records to savour and perhaps more correctly place Emmett in Blue Nile territory both prolifically and sonically. He’s even saved the eponymous title for this one.

Emmett’s debut solo album Attic Faith was caught up in a typical tale of major label change and procrastination, eventually being released in Ireland only on Independent Records, maybe not quite what his new deal with Atlantic Records had promised. It did however receive unanimous critical acclaim in Ireland and was nominated for The Choice Music Prize.

It wasn’t until 2009 that Tinley signed a new record deal. Mass Market Recordings (The Hague, The Netherlands) released the 10th anniversary edition of Polichinelle and added 5 bonus tracks to it. Emmett played some gigs in Ireland and The Netherlands and during dinner before the The Hague-gig in December 2009, the idea of recording a new acoustic solo album was shaped. Emmett recorded part of the album in Los Angeles in April and August of 2010 and finished it early 2011 in Denmark.  Of course with Emmett an acoustic album always sounds like a great idea but the songs always cry out for broader arrangement and a richer sonic palette and strings, e-bow and brass eventually found their way in.

First single In My Life is released on on 18th May and is available as a free download from www.emmetttinley.com
