DRY THE RIVER

+ Moscow Metro & John Blek

Dry the River have announced a headline show at Whelan’s on Wednesday, 25th April 2012. Tickets €12.00 including booking fee are on sale now.

Dry the River formed in the spring of 2009, after front man Peter Liddle enlisted the help from a collection of old friends he knew from playing in various bands around London. The band consists of Peter Liddle (vocals / guitar), Matt Taylor (guitar), Scott Miller (bass), Will Harvey (violin) & Jon Warren (drums). They cite an esoteric list of influences – Leonard Cohen, At The Drive-In, Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bruce Springsteen and Devendra Banhart – the band draw as much from their shared love of U.S. hardcore as they do from the classic songwriters they all admire.

The band travelled to Connecticut to record their debut album Shallow Bed earlier this year. The 11-track album was produced in the trustworthy hands of Peter Katis (The National and Interpol) at his home-studio during the summer of 2011. “We were looking for someone who could strike a balance between lo-fi and hi-fi,” said front man Peter Liddle who found Katis to be the perfect match. “We wanted to record the bulk of it to tape, to use analogue stuff in favour of computer wizardry where possible, but without it sounding like an old folk record. I think we tried to preserve the fragility and honesty of the more stripped down tracks, but still get the intensity of the live show across too – to marry those two aspects of our music without it sounding incongruous.”

With their highly anticipated debut album Shallow Bed due for release in March 2012, Dry the River have already enjoyed a great amount of success. The band played a number of headline dates in the UK which culminated in a sold-out show at London’s Scala, and they recently supported Bombay Bicycle Club on their sold-out UK tour. This summer also saw the band play some rapturously received festival gigs on both sides of the Atlantic, some highlights being their shows at SXSW in Texas, Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, Latitude and most recently End of the Road and Bestival. To top the year off the band were recently recommended as one to watch by the BBC Sound of 2012 poll.

See them play live at Whelan’s on Wednesday 25th April 2012. Tickets €12.00 including booking fee are on sale now.
