DANNY O’BRIEN

“Who breaks up with Stella?” Plus special guests Fri 18th & Sat 19th Nov ^ Upstairs ^ Following in the footsteps of Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran and Dara Ó Briain – Danny was hand picked this year to perform as part of the iconic “Best of The Edinburgh Fest” Show and has just returned from Australia touring Perth World Fringe, Adelaide Fringe Festival and The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. After selling out Whelans last year with his critically acclaimed show “Ah Jaysus!” Danny returns to Whelans for two nights only with his brand new solo which has just finished a sold out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His new show looks at O’ Brien’s unique take on performing down under, being forced to do a show in Gaelic, the worst Tinder date in history, living life, losing love and the question everyone needs an answer to… “Who breaks up with Stella?” Danny has been performing stand-up comedy for over seven years, playing regularly at top comedy clubs and festivals to worldwide audiences, as well as being the resident host and owner of The Comedy Crunch in Dublin, Ireland’s most successful comedy club. With his friendly, anecdotal style, this Irish charmer draws in an audience and brings on the big laughs with ease. He performed his first solo show at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival to rave reviews and scooped the title of “Dublin’s Funniest Comedian” at the prestigious Stand Up For FM104 that same year. In 2013 Danny took part in Irish TV show The RTE Comedy Awards and released his first comedy album on iTunes as part of the Irish Underground Comedy Show. He also beat sixteen of Ireland’s best up-and-coming acts to take the coveted Toilet Duck Award at Tedfest, the now-famous Father Ted celebration. In 2014 Danny performed at the Edinburgh Fringe with his second solo show ‘Back To The Hills!’ and had a hugely successful sold-out run, returning in 2015 with ‘Ah Jaysus!’, performing another triumphant run to full houses followed by shows in Ireland, the UK and Europe and appearances at The Forbidden Fruit Festival, Longitude Festival, and Vodafone Comedy Festivals. In addition to his fourth solo show at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival Danny was asked to perform as part of this years “AAA Stand-Up” (total sellout from 2005-2015) at The Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh as well as The Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Latitude Comedy Festival (UK), BugJam Festival (UK), The Vodafone Comedy Festival, Ravlóid (Irish speaking) Festival, Electric Picnic, The Vodafone Comedy Carnival as well as a host of International shows in Berlin, Barcelona, Brussels, Malmö, Amsterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm. He also appeared on The Comedy Central Show “Brexit at Tiffany’s” which will be aired on Comedy Central Australia on Foxtel next month. Danny has also featured regularly on TV3 and RTE this year. Quotes “O’ Brien took to the stage like a force of nature…one suspects it wont be too much longer before stadiums come calling” (The Examiner ****) “A perfect mix of brains, banter and brilliance!” (Great Scott ****) “Danny is destined for stardom!” (The Laughter Lounge)
