Show entitled ‘Condemned The Lyricist,’ alternative Indie-folk singer songwriter Con Murphy is bringing his live show back to Whelan’s, Dublin on January 10th 2020 along with his full band, to launch one of his most eagerly awaited releases to date; ‘The Lyricist’. Fresh off the back of a fantastic return to the Electric Picnic Music and Arts Festival 2019 and a support show with The Riptide Movement, this is his second appearance on the Whelan’s stage. You can expect a selection of alt-rock folk, pop and folk ballad sounds pushing the boundaries of carious mixed genres. His debut releases – described by RTÉ Lyric FM’s Marty Whelan as “Gorgeous”, are intertwined by experimental synth-pop and rock tracks which are proving to be favourites among his growing live fan base.

On the more melancholy sounds of the artist, ‘The Fjord’ EP tracks ‘Patiently Wait’, ‘Heavens Table’ and title track ‘The Fjord’ (which was written on a 2015 trip to Iceland and later launched in the same location) is inspired by the stories from the Icelandic eastern fjords about love and wonder. Con wove them together with gentle melodies whilst sitting listening to the sultry tones of Patsy Cline. These songs give you a sense of homely nostalgia as the lyrics paint stories of time passing in relationships, the wonderment of travel and the importance of patience.

The EP has grabbed some significant attention since its release in late March 2018 receiving airplay on national radio both at home and abroad, and earned Con feature slots at various festivals last summer both in Ireland and in the UK. He followed the success of his debut EP with a new single release under the title ‘Chocolate Pills’ which acts as a metaphor for positive human interaction, compassion and empathy expressed through a catchy alternative 80’s synth-pop track which blatantly explores sounds from his biggest musical influences including The Cure and Bell X1. After receiving poignant reviews in Pure M magazine and featured as the #714 Joe.ie Song Of The Day – ‘Chocolate Pills’ is certainly one for your playlists.

Having spent the past number of years developing his live show which has included appearances on the same bill as The Frank & Walters, Paddy Casey, Duke Special, Mundy, U.M.A.N, David Keenan and Damien Dempsey, and even performing alongside Hatari drummer for his first Icelandic show in 2015, this is an opportunity to get the full force of Con’s back catalogue and unheard releases. The live show really is the best way to hear these tracks.

To quote Pure M Magazine, you can expect a “Forceful yet friendly combination of pop, rock and folk”.
