BLUE EYED HAWK, CLANG SAYNE & SELK

IMC presents

BLUE EYED HAWK CLANG SAYNE SELK

After a fantastic reception at Down With Jazz festival earlier this month, welcome home again to singer Lauren Kinsella. She has made quite an impression since moving to London a few years back, notably winning the prestigious Kenny Wheeler prize in 2013. Named for a line in Yeats’ Under the Moon, Blue-Eyed Hawk features serious London talent in trumpeter Laura Jurd, guitarist Alex Roth and drummer Corrie Dick. A debut CD on influential label Edition is slated for later this year, but they’re already making waves on the UK festival scene with wide eyed, panoramic music, anchored by Kinsella’s exhilarating way with words.

With Clang Sayne, Laura Hyland also occupies the space between song and improvisation, redefining jaded definitions of the singer/songwriter. The Wire describes her debut release Wonderlands as ‘exhilarating in its refusal to conform’, and she co-opts singer Judith Ring and drummer Matt Jacobsen for this Whelan’s set.

Selk is a new departure for jazz and hip hop drummer Dennis Cassidy, fusing with Anna Jordan’s ethereal voice and keys to create an intimate, quietly insistent sound world.
