Quebec-born, California-based singer/songwriter Adam Cohen announces European tour.

Cohen has released three solos albums, enjoyed radio hits, toured the globe, and made a Gold-certified smash of his 2011 release Like a Man. He once fronted the band Low Millions alongside guitarist/producer Don MIguel. He is the father of a seven-year-old boy wonder named Cassius. And you’ve likely heard of his father, legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen.

These qualities contextualize the younger Cohen, who now presents a new, strikingly intimate, bold and bewitching offering, in a new album due for release in September.

We Go Home

Before discussing We Go Home, the poignant new album from Quebec-born, California-based singer/songwriter Adam Cohen, it’s helpful to know a few things: Cohen has released three solos albums, enjoyed radio hits, toured the globe, and made a Gold-certified smash of his 2011 release Like a Man. He once fronted the band Low Millions alongside guitarist/producer Don MIguel. He is the father of a seven-year-old boy wonder named Cassius. And you’ve likely heard of his father, legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen.

These qualities contextualize the younger Cohen, who now presents a new, strikingly intimate, bold and bewitching offering, We Go Home; the album that almost wasn’t. You see, Adam Cohen completed and then scrapped an album before starting afresh.

“Touring a successful record for two years was a wonderful experience, but I found myself further apart from my muse: my roots, my family and my home life,” he reflects. So, after being thwarted in a traditional studio setting, Cohen refocused and reconnected with his loved ones, and chose to cement his relation to his roots and family even further by recording in the living rooms of houses in which he was raised (in Montreal and Hydra, Greece). “I needed desperate measures to keep me honest and to relieve me of the anxiety of following up the only successful record I’ve ever made.”

Desperation resulted in inspiration. “The best records often happen while people play together in unfussy environments…in making We Go Home, we were often wearing little more than swimwear or bathrobes!” laughs Cohen. This relaxed atmosphere and stripped-down approach results in the exquisitely organic We Go Home, which gathers gravitas from the artist’s leathery growl and photorealist lyrics. This is a collection of songs that are passages of dialogue between father and son, intimate words uttered between lovers, and conversations with oneself.

“In making Like a Man, I embraced a voice and tradition I belong to, but had initially sought to avoid. In We Go Home, I wanted to raise the voice I found and make that voice even more my own.”Co-produced by friend and long-time collaborator Don MIguel (who also added bass and backing vocals) and Jean Massicotte (see also Patrick Watson, Lhasa) and featuring cellist/guitarist and vocalist Mai Bloomfield as well as, briefly, Serena Ryder, We Go Home teems with “truth, beauty and a certain goes-down-easy quotient”.

In We Go Home Adam Cohen takes further ownership and command of his own voice within a family tradition. He is the link between his father Leonard and his son Cassius. Adam Cohen is a son. And he is a father. And he is a man. And he is yours.
